Since 2016, the math and reading scores for Trautwein have precipitously dropped below proficient, 17% in math proficiency and below 33% in reading proficiency making this one of the lowest ranking elementary schools in Mehlville School District. Too much emphasis is placed on fun activities, wearing shirts with words on them, silly sock day, principal assemblies that focus on her agenda, and more which takes time away from the importance of learning within the classroom. Too much concern from the principal on keeping up her own personal appearance, admonishing students and teachers when visiting classrooms, walking around looking to find fault with teachers’ instructing and a lack of engaging with students on an academic level are just some of the areas impacting academic areas within this school. Excellence begins at the top. This principal needs to put forth positive priorities regarding her teachers and students and less about her opportunities for advancing her career. Previous principals worked with students during their visits by working with a small group of students, reading to a class, or presenting a social/emotional lesson for all classrooms. There are Mehlville schools that have high standards for learning and academic achievement. At this time, Trautwein does not provide these higher math and reading standards. The Mehlville administration needs to provide assistance for this principal so that she may set her goals towards raising academic achievement. Home buyers looking in the Mehlville District will find many other elementary schools with higher math and reading scores that would be beneficial for their children.

This school has a serious staffing problem and needs new administration to correct its deeply rooted discriminatory practices. My children never felt welcome here. Horrible experience, glad we moved.

I cannot say enough great things about this school. It is a wonderful community. The principal and vice principal are both incredibly involved and invested in their students' success. There are wonderful teachers that appreciate their parents and kids. Communication from staff is top notch. I have never had to wait for responses to questions or issues from anyone. My child is excelling at this school because of all the amazing support. Also, she absolutely loves her school and enjoys going every single day.

We love Trautwein. I was skeptical at first as i didn't get the warm fuzzies during our tour. However, that person has since retired. I can not say enough about how amazing this school is. From Dr. Henderson and Dr. Maus outside every morning greeting every student by name to Ms. O, Mrs. Brickey and Mrs. Higgins helping student safely out of the cars in the parent drop off line. Mrs. Judd waiting at the top of the steps welcoming all students to school. I can not imagine i ever doubted for one moment this is the perfect environment for my child to learn. I have never seen more caring, involved, loving and just amazing teachers. As my family moves forward with our journey in St. Louis we will never move out of the Trautwein bounderies.

I have taught at Trautwein Elementary for nine years. This is a very dedicated staff of teachers and support personnel. We are recognized as a Missouri State School of Character. We have lessons and class sessions regarding good character traits weekly in all our grades and classes. Our teachers work throughout the school year with students and parents regarding tutoring, school activities, and parent directed activities. Our school community is a warm and welcoming community of teachers and students.
