This school is an exceptional place for an exceptionally smart student. There's nowhere else like it. The fall is focused on theater and great books, not football and homecoming kings and queens.

TJS has less than 100 students. Unless you lowered your standards or made friends online, you will most likely not have any friends at all, only classmates/acquaintances you know and go to the mall with. The languages offered are ridiculous: Greek, Latin, Italian, and French. Those are fancy, yes, but not half as relevant to most people's lives as Spanish or Chinese is. "Electives" is a dirty word here; naturally there is very little individualization due to the abnormally small population. Then there's the little things, like mandatory child labor and having to check in at each meal.

I am so glad we sent my son here, this is his 5th year at TJ. The learning environment is first rate, though it is a very hard school academically. I think one of the best attributes of the school is that it teaches the students how to learn and think on their own, and how to be organized, it really prepares them for college. Very much a traditional cirriculum, with limited extracirricular activites, but they make up for it with enthusiasm. My son has had the chance to see all types of plays, dance programs, and art shows, and they incorporate it into the classroom activities. He also has friends from all over the world, these relationships have introduced him to new types of music, food, culture, and ways of thinking. Teachers are very dedicated and the new school head is very progressive. I am so glad we chose it.

Thomas Jefferson is a community of learners and a community where family is developed among all constituents. Speaking and writing with clarity are guideposts for each student.
