The faculty and staff of RMS run a tight ship, which is much needed structurally at this age. They push students to achieve more and exceed expectations. My child feels like the teachers genuinely care about him as a person as well as his academic success. As far as middle schools are concerned, I feel confident that my child will have a positive experience. Teachers work hard and are compassionate toward students. Expectations are clearly outlined from day one, and students are given multiple chances to complete assignments and succeed. RMS also has strong extracurricular programs. Show choir, band, and chorus are incredible. There are 200+ students in band and in chorus. Sports teams are competitive with same-size middle schools and often come out on top. My child states that he likes middle school much better than elementary school, and he had a positive experience there as well.

The teachers are disrespectful to the children. My child's PE teacher gave him in-school suspention because his shirt kept coming untuck. He tried to explain to her that his shirt was too short. She told my child to shut up, would not listen to anything he had to say and wrote him up. When I tried to setup a conference with the teacher, the assistant principal would not allow me to. Told me I could leave a message and she would call me back. I spoke with the PE teacher over the phone and she admitted to me that she told my child to shut up because he had an attitude. Really? Because he was trying to explain to you the reason his shirt kept coming untuck.

This is a wonderful school. The teachers are great, they answer emails promptly and most are available before school to tutor students. The principal is very attuned to the students and responds very quickly to any concerns. They have a great gifted program and terrific extracurricular activities as well. My child was attending a private school in the same town and I can honestly say that his curriculum is actually better at Rome. My child and I both love this school.
