My daughter attended model for two years and my son is currently an 8th grader at model. Our experience has been almost exclusively positive. Both of my children's grades improved quickly and dramatically at Model. Kay White and the other counselors are quick to get involved with the students. The environment is welcoming and safe. The school is clean and well organized. Every teacher that my kids have had has been fantastic. My kids are not what one would call outgoing. Every member of the staff that I or my children have interacted with have, in ways both big and small, played a part in making them engage, and stay engaged. The principals and vice principals are great. All of them, from the elementary school, middle and high school care about their students and school, and it shows. There is always room for improvement, but Model Schools, and my kids' experiences there, have been the best part of living in Rome. The improvements that could be made will require the county school system to free up some money for athletic facilities and equipment, and infrastructure and equipment to modernize some of the educational aids.

Model High fake grades for struggling kids. My son has autism and they were faking his grade so they could keep him in a "regular classes". This DOES NOT help kids with learning disabilities !!!!! YOU TELL ME HOW a child with a understanding of 2nd grade level of math and passes algebra???? When I called them out on bluffing his grade that's when they started failing him. They refused to pull him out of those classes.

If you have a child who is going to play baseball at Model be ready to shell out $400 for him in order to play. I have 2 grandchildren at Model who have always played baseball and one of them is a senior who dearly loves baseball and was looking so forward to playing in his last year. He knew that he was not the best player and would not get to play every game. However, his family did not have $800 to pay for 2 children to play. So, the senior did not get to participate in at least the last 10-12 games other than as an occasional substitute runner, not even in the senior game! As I understand it, some of the leaders of the booster club complained about players who were unable to pay and I find this very disturbing. Evidently they exercise a great deal of persuasion with the coach as to who plays and who doesn't. It was not the child's fault that his parents could not afford the fee. The student-players (all of them)need to leave high school with the positive memory of their baseball participation that they were valued not only for their ability to play , their perseverance in sticking to the routine and of utmost importance as a valuable child of God!
