Overall our time at Garden Lakes has been a stressful nightmare of gaslighting and targeted hate. We have had multiple issues including FERPA violations and when these issues have been raised to the principal she refuses to address them. Instead her favorite thing to do is say “that’s not true” or “you’re lying”. These tiny issues and parent concerns could have been handled appropriately, instead we have had to start a case against the school. To make matters worse her husband is the liaison at the district office who a parent would normally go to for help. This school is in desperate need for new administration because the behavior of the admin staff trickles down and creates negative repercussions for the teachers and students.

Pretty disappointed to be honest. I am a younger parent and it seems my generation doesn’t deserve respect from the office staff and administrators at this school. I feel unwelcome and looked down upon. The front office staff has been rude and dismissive to me. I can’t get a word in when I need help with my student. While I understand they have been working in education for a while they don’t know my child and their special needs. Each case of special needs comes with different recommendations and routines. I have tried very hard to make sure I can advocate for my child but I do not get taken seriously at GLES. I feel like there’s a club of older adults behaving like a clique from high school and they are unwilling to work with parents who aren’t part of the group. It’s a very weird feeling to know the staff and principal make you feel like the group of bullies are in charge at the school.

I love Garden Lakes Elementary School. We are in our fourth year and we absolutely love our principal and the supportive staff. When I walk in the school it's like I am going to visit my family.You are greeted with a smile; you are asked how are you and they call the kids by their name.Every morning unless there is terrible weather- Mrs. Alcorn (Principal) and Dr. Arp (Asst. Principal) are standing on the breezeway waving and greeting the students that are being walked in or in the car rider line. Often times you will even see Mrs. Alcorn walking up to your car while in the car rider line to greet you. There has never been a time that I have went to the school that I didn't feel like my voice wasn't heard. Seriously, we have the best teachers that a parent could ask for. Parent involvement is understatement for our school! You always see parents at the school volunteering. My son has been blessed to have great teachers that push him far beyond his limits. My child is very smart which makes it easy for him, but from time to time he may have an issue with the material and his teachers always find a way to break it down for him to understand! What more could you ask for in a teaching staff?I'm not sure what else that I could say that would not make you not like our school! Every school has their up's and down but Garden Lakes is a school that I would suggest anyone to send their kids too; they are just that good!

I have had three children go through this school since 2007 (and one more will start kindergarten in the fall). I wouldn't dream of sending them anywhere else. (In fact, because we live out of district, I actually have to do a few things to ensure their spot at GLES.) Long story short...great school, AMAZING principal and staff (everyone from the teachers to the librarian, lunchroom ladies, office staff, and custodians). In my 7 year old's case, the school has gone above and beyond to help him in terms of his ADHD. You couldn't ask for a better and more caring school.
