Our son is excelling at this school so far. He is in first grade. The teacher communicate well and are very caring. The current administrators go above and beyond.

I see from the reviews below that nothing has changed in 40 years. I moved to Rising Sun when I was in 1st grade and war trapped there until I was a freshman. Bunch of backward rednecks who isolate those from outside.

Very poorly ran school by the Assisted Principal and the Principle! It seems that the Assistant tries to rule the roost and the principal just doesn't have a backbone. There are a lot of teachers who show major favoritism and are very rude. Not only have they been rude to me, but extremely rude to the children and says extremely negative things to discourage them. My child just wants to drop out so bad! Its quite disgusting to be honest!

Horrible school. There are parents who work or volunteer there and come out and gossip about the kids and how they behave, who has lice, etc. Very inappropriate. Also parents are not encouraged to be involved at all. It's as if they don't want you there. The principal and vice principal have minimal involvement. A lot of favoritism at this school. Now they are talking about all parents having background checks before they are allowed to enter the school. How sad is that?

This school is very poor with the way it handles children. I will often hear teacher bad mouthing students and talking about other parents. The people here who are in the great responsibility of guiding our children in the right direction for the rest of their life, and a good majority of them act like high school students. There are only a few people here who are actually just great people. But honestly, they are far outweighted by the teachers and staff who behave and treat children and parents with no respect.

This is needs alot of help. The teachers and rude and the principal (assitant) thinks she is always right. My child went to school here and he was hit by a member of the "in" group in the county so nothing was done to this other student. So I pulled my son from this school. This community and school system is all about who you know not by the teachers helping students. I MUST say I have had 2 other children who had a teracher that is in the middle school and he was wonderful. But 1 out of 50 is not good.

I have ran into alot of good teachers here who will work with me and my child. He has learning disabilities . There are always a few not so good teachers or they just did not know how to handle the situations that came up with him. I have to say the viceprincipal is spectacular at contacting me if need be or acualy dealing with the situation herself. His aid is one in a million and will call me if the need arises. I am very hands on with my son and the staff apreciates that. I know the school does not revolve around my child. The staff and I do the best we can and I love the help they offer. It is a great school.

While there are both good and bad teachers in every school, I feel that OCEMS is just maintaing a position of mediocrity. It subscribes to the "One size fits all" mentality with no special programs for students who need extra help, or those who are ahead of their peers. I see no allotment for the children to express their individual traits, being expected to be obediant little robots instead. The education process in public schools has been attacked by excessive government intrusion and this school offers no exception to the rule. Home schooling or private education would definitely be a better choice.

Very disappointed in this school. NO consistency with anything. One kid can tattle another cannot. Too many students to teacher ratio. Lots of the teachers and teachers aides are very unfriendly. No communication between parent and teachers. Thinking of switching schools next year because of this.
