In response to the review re; privilege. Our family of 4 (6th and 3rd grade) has had the privilege of attending Tuckahoe Elementary for several years standing now. My husband also attended this school 32 years ago. We in fact live on the “other side of Patterson” in a tiny 1230sq ft house and we do have immigrant neighbors and kids of lower socioeconomic standing, on our street. We’ve had opportunities to leave and move into a bigger place but we love the school so much, in the tiny house we stay. In the past few years, our school has worked very hard to understand the needs of everyone across the board. They have paid attention and given real consideration of what the way is and how to do it, in 2024. They have made great efforts to include everybody. I’ve noticed more the last two years, that there are so many more assignments and projects that have a global learning aspect and that’s just wonderful. We are global citizens. My son came home today showing me he had written Chinese Characters and their meanings. I’m half Korean so my kid studying Ancient China in 3rd grade is is so exciting to me. Which kids know what the character is for Love and can actually write it out? TES kids can! Recently there was a global quilt the kids did, where they were assigned a sheet of paper (quilt square) and they were to draw and color about their own family heritage and culture. And it was all put together like a quilt with everyone’s cultures joining each other. So sweet! I have been beyond impressed at how much TES has been teaching our kids about global citizenship! We are so super proud of our school! We also changed the TES mascot and it’s no longer an American Indian. We are one family and 5 houses. We are respectful, trustworthy, grateful, compassionate, courageous. Go TES! Go House Haathee! Any family would be very lucky to have an opportunity to attend this school. The Jones family loves TES. So much that this mom has forgone personal space just so we can be part of the school!

It’s a great school with so much opportunity but it lacks in diversity as 93% of the students are white. The teachers are also all White. And I believe all women. There aren’t very many underserved children at this school and as such, the PTA doesn’t take into consideration that some kids won’t be able to participate in things like Reflections, because of economic standing. The PTA will require you to pay a donation to be in the PTA and that is the only way a child can participate. There are a lot of little things here and there that make Tuckahoe a privileged school to attend. I am ever so grateful that my kids are getting a private school education, for basically free. The teachers are incomparable. The resources are wonderful. But, 93% of students all live in $500,000 + homes and they’re all White. That’s just the way the lines are cut in the district for the school. If you are looking for a culturally or socio- economically diverse school, this might not be for you.

I love TES. I am a 6th grader who went to TES k-5th grade. This school is amazing, it's as close to a private school as there ever will be. The students are great and the teachers are amazing. It has the best traditions that never change, like Spring Fling, that even former students now in high school come back for. The school itself is kept extremely neat and orderly, while still allowing students to have fun and learn. Tuckahoe has taught many generations, parents and now their children.
