A true family. Wonderful staff from top to bottom. The most positive learning environment you could ever wish for. I have never felt that my opinion was ignored or looked down own. This is one of the most safe schools you could hope for. A visit is all you need.

Northstar is a great place for chilren who have learning/social/emotional disabilities that prevent them from success in a traditional school setting. My daughter has flourished in her 2 years at Northstar, and in the public schools, she probably would have been a high school drop out. I highly recommend this school.

Before my granddaughter came to Northstar she was struggling in the public school system. She was in fourth grade, but was still reading at a mid-kindergarten level. The public school was not addressing her educational needs, and was just pushing her from one grade to the next even though we all could easily see that she was not progressing. She was doing the same work over and over each year, and she had lost all self-confidence. Since coming to Northstar I can see a tremendous improvement in her self-confidence and in her reading abilities. She loves going to school again. The curriculum Northstar provided was just what she needed. The teachers and staff are just wonderful, and you can see that they are dedicated to providing the best education for each child, and an education that is geared specifically to their needs.

My daughter was struggling to fit in socially and keep up academically in public school. Once she started attending Northstar, she began to like going to school, made friends, focus and stay engaged in classwork, improve her grades and social skills. The students areas of weakness are assessed, and a plan is implemented at their level. Behavior problems from other students are a fairly big concern in that they're disruptive to classes, but their is a well structured system of consequences repeat offenders. The focus is on making sure the kids have an opportunity to understand the choice they're making before severe consequences are delivered. The thing that I've really loved is that while the first year seemed less challenging than it should have been academically, the school staff/faculty was really spending time learning where my child was academically. Now the curriculum is becoming more intensive, but still at a manageable level for students. The Advisory (social skills) class that they have every day is such an amazing resource, and should be a class in every public school as well! With goals and expectations, every child can succeed...and they do at Northstar Academy!

I am impressed with the creativity and effort they put in to their lessons and activities. I am very thankful my son now loves going to school.
