Our three children entered Eastern Kentucky University Model elementary school at different years due to the first come-first serve waiting list (siblings receive no preference). They had previously attended preschool at a major University Child Development Center, so the concept of a University-managed school was not new to us, and was indeed preferred. Each of our children integrated very smoothly into their new classrooms and the teachers eased their transitions beautifully. Model is the best value anywhere: private school size grade levels at a fraction of private school price. Model provides an outstanding foundation for high school and higher education, and the students benefit from student teachers from the Eastern Kentucky University College of Education. The fact that Model students consistently rank at the top of all schools with respect to ACT scores says a lot, and the consistent 95-100% of each senior class admitted to colleges and universities across the U.S. is a testament to the quality of teaching.

New kids tend to be excluded/outcastes as most of the kids have gone to school together since Pre-K/Kindergarten. Students also live in various counties and never really interact outside of school. Also Model does not offer bus service and getting your child to and from school can be very inconvenient.
