I’ve had two daughters graduate from Salesian college prep and it was a great experience for both of them. One of my daughters excelled academically and one struggled. Salesian offered extra help for my daughter who struggled. Both my daughters enjoyed the feeling of community and the diversity. Salesian has some pretty amazing teachers that my daughters not only learned from but highly enjoyed. Salesian College Preparatory was a great choice for our family!

We love this school for its wonderful community setting! My daughter is a junior and has had many opportunities! She’s participated in volleyball, softball and swim! She’s been involved in the arts and has helped the community because that is a big part of being a salesians student! Her two cousins have graduated and gone on to attend college and she hopes to do the same! The preparation for college and the outreach and support to students is unmatched! We love Salesians!

I’m my experience this school is a “catfish” there’s a lot of issues they sweep under the rug and parents aren’t properly notified. In addition, there are several issue that involve the principle requiring students to sight contracts that obligate them to stand for the pledge of allegiance if they want to attend this school. Your better off going to a public school than here. Salesian is not the most friendly environment.

Salesian is very close to my heart, having been a place where much of my family attended and where I met my lifelong friends. Salesian creates an environment for students to grow in multiple aspects. Looking back, I obviously saw much academic growth but I see now much of my social growth was fostered in the Salesian environment. Faculty and staff support students inside and out of the classroom. For those having trouble with family or friends, there was a support system. Salesian gives you the freedom to fail but encourages you to succeed, and post failure, is there to help you get back up again. The rigorous education helped me stay one step above my peers once in college. Graduating from college was never a question in my mind. Salesian was the push that made me the first in my family to graduate from college. I continually look back at that time in my life and am grateful for the opportunity to attend and graduate from Salesian.

Salesian is a wonderful school. There were plenty of Honors classes for my daughter as well as very rigorous academics in regular classes. Salesian was a great decision for us and they made sure my daughter graduated with everything she needed to get into a UC. There are multiple extra curricular activities and trips the kids can go on. It is a safe school and was a great choice for us. It is a great school.

Salesian High School is in what one can refer to as a death spiral. In recent years, enrollment has dropped. The desperate administration responded by slashing programs, especially honor classes and languages (only Spanish is currently offered), cutting outstanding faculty members, increasing class size (most classes are around 30 students), and lowering admission standards. The result is fewer and less rigorous academic opportunities, increased disciplinary issues, and lower faculty morale, which makes it a less able to get students in the first place. The current administration is unqualified, non-transparent in their decision-making, and of questionable competency. While Salesian is safer than the surrounding public schools, its educational opportunities are actually less. If you want a good baby-sitting service, choose Salesian, if you want a good education, there are many better choices.

I graduated from Salesian in June and I am proud to say that this was the best choice my parents made for me. I am currently attending school at a University in California and I have so much to be thankful for. I started as a quiet and nervous student and left with skills in leadership, experience and pride in succeeding in advanced placement courses, and even learned to play an instrument (and performed for hundreds of people..scary!). Through all of this, I formed great bonds with the teachers and students of the school. As I anxiously start again as a freshman student, I appreciate the foundation I received and know that I have a family for life.

The academic and extracurricular activities at Salesian surpass those of any of the two public schools I attended and any of the schools at which I taught. The Salesians mold the charater of young men and women to produce leaders for tomorrow's diverse culture. As an alumn of Salesian High I am greatful to the Salesians for showing me that we can achieve our dreams inspite of the barriers life often puts in front of us. This is accomplished by instilling in each student an unquestioning belief in their talents, beliefs, and innate goodness.

As a Salesian alumnus, I would highly recommend attending Salesian High School. I had an amazing experience in my four years there. Academically, I was challenged each and every day. Socially, Salesian offered so many options in terms of sports and clubs. Spiritually, it offers exceptional volunteer and service learning components that helped shape who I am today. For any prospective parents that are considering sending your students to Salesian, rest assured it is worth it. My Salesian education prepared me for an undergrad degree at UC Berkeley. I have since completed a graduate degree as well. The best part about attending Salesian is the alumni resources in place afterwards. I am still connected with my fellow grads and remain friends with other alums. We are always welcomed back home to Salesian and enjoy being part of a large family. Go Salesian!

I don't know what it is like today. However, I attended Salesian High when it was an all boys school from 1977-1980. I learned alot and I'am very grateful for the strictness that was taught there on the academic level. I wish I would've listened and followed rules more. To the students enrolled there today,"you should take full advantage of the oppotunity you have to get some good education". Definitely enough to get you into and beyond college.

My daughter is a junior at Salesian. We are very happy with the school for a variety of reasons: the caring administration, excellent teachers (all but one or two during her three years there), a focus on learning to be a kind person who contributes to the community, and a wide assortment of activities available to just about any student. Salesian is small enough that anyone who really wants to can act in the school plays, be in the band, write for the newspaper, or do most activities. My daughter isn't into sports, but many of the teams at Salesian are top-rated. Salesian has a real commitment to helping kids from poor and immigrant families get ready for a college education. The campus is clean, well cared for, and secure. If you live in Hercules, Pinole, Richmond, El Sobrante, San Pablo, or El Cerrito, I highly recommend looking into Salesian High School.

This school is a bit of a joke. I will admit that the courses are rigorous and the grades that we earn here really do mean something, but the rest of the school could stand for some positive changes. The teachers do play favorites, the Guidance counselors tend to encourage the "smarter" kids to excel in academics, all the while making the average kids with gpa's between 3.0-3.5, feel like they aren't good enough. With all of the money that parents pay (12,000 dollars a year, to be precise) you'd think that the school could afford simple things like blinds that actually closed or air conditioners on insanely hot days, but alas, nothing. Not to mention that some of the teachers have bad attitudes that are not addressed by the school. The kids either act extremely ghetto or extremely snobby, with hardly any in between.

I have two children who attend Salesian, and not only do I think Salesian is a great school, my children feel the same way. How often do parents and children agree? The teachers are great and it is a very structured environment where the concentration is on building the whole person from both an academic standpoint to a character standpoint. I can't imagine a school that can be better.

Salesian is completely overrated. Our parents pay ridiculous amounts of money for us to get taught in classrooms with peeling paint and blinds that don't come down completely. The teachers have obvious favorites and do NOT seek to help you individually. The school is supposed to be about unity and family, but all of my fellow students act meaner than I've seen in public schools. You would also think that because we pay so much that we would be able to get into the classes we want. NO, AP classes usually only have 1 class because the teacher doesn't want to teach another, therefore only a few students get in.
