I have 2 children enrolled at St. John The Baptist in El Cerrito and love it. The administration is clearly well-run and mission-driven. The teachers and staff are thoughtful, kind, and excellent from a pedagogical perspective. I was really impressed with the curriculum and it shows in how much they have learned.

I love the Teacher's, Principal, Tech Coordinator, Staff and Parents. My child started the 2020-2021 academic year as a new student during the shelter in place distant learning program. Every one did their part to help ensure students and staff stayed safe and healthy while doing the things they know and love.

We were new to the area and needed to find a good school for our fourth grade daughter. Even though St. John's was not on our initial radar, we decided to take a tour. Ms.Clabby who is one of the administrators and wears many hats at the school was so friendly and she made the process very easy for us. My daughter immediately felt comfortable with the small school setting and was excited to start. We appreciate the smaller student population which actually makes us feel safer during a pandemic. Her teacher is thoughtful, creative, and very inclusive to all the students. We do appreciate the fact that classrooms can transition quickly to remote learning during city power outages too. We strongly recommend the school for students looking to be challenged and want a smaller setting.

We are very pleased. Every June we hear,”That was my favorite year”. We like that a wonderful education is offered, as well as developing strong Christian character, Teachers and staff go above and beyond anything we’ve experienced at other schools, and students and families kind and welcoming. We highly recommend St. John the Baptist School.

We are a veteran of St. John the Baptist for 5 Years now with two kids enrolled & hoping to go back for me by holding on to what's good and working about the school and holding out hope that we can worth together and make SJB an even greater school. So that we can honestly come back here and can authentically say SJB is an "exceptional school" & mean it in the soon near future. This is a very sincere and blunt review & our identify is no secret so we are willing to work with all members to improve on what needs improvement. This in no way shape or form should take away from our gratitude to all the teachers through out the years that have nurtured & educated our precious children. It takes a village and they are huge part of that hence why we have vested interest in its betterment & growth.

This is an exceptional school. Teachers go above and beyond parental expectations. This is hands down the best school in the area.

We are pleased with our kindergarten experience. My son knows addition, subtraction, spelling of over 250+ words, reading sentences, etc. The tuition is expensive but in hindsight - I think a good foundation is important and we are glad we came here. He gives the teacher a hug all the time and gets sad when he had to stay home because he is sick. He loves the kindergarten class and the teacher and assistant. Compared to his cousins in public school - he is very far ahead academically.

Good and caring teachers. Committed to a nurturing, but discipline environment for our children. I feel that there's a lot of preferential status to some other parents and children from both the teachers and the principal. But overall love the community feel of the school and satisfied with the academics so far.

St. John the Baptist School is a K-8 Catholic school in an urban area. The student population is small and diverse. I really like the characteristics. The school does a great job in integrating technology and focusing heavily on math and science, primarily in the junior high grades. The students have opportunities to meet friends across the grade levels during school events such as Family Day and get to form close friendships with their peers due to one class per grade. One very exciting change of the physical plant coming this summer will be the modernization of the school library which will include a smaller computer lab and conference room. My husband and I are very pleased with the education our daughter has received for almost four years. We are also parishioners at the neighboring church and love the school-church connection and community.

St John's is, at heart, a great place for children to learn. The class sizes are small, parent involvement is high, and they have some great teachers that are committed to teaching kids in new and innovative ways. As a K-8th grade school, the advantages to having your child grow up with the same group of kids and essentially the same staff (turnover in teaching positions is very low) outweigh the disadvantages.

SJB - El Cerrito, CA. Academically, so far so good. The teachers will challenge a student's learning ability. There is too much clique going on and favoritism w/ certain parents & principal. Teachers don't always want to be accountable, which transfers to students not being accountable. Little connection between school & church; at least 2 of the teaching staff are bullies, and not open to changing.

I couldn't be happier with this school. The teachers are great and there is a great community of involved parents, which I think is key to a child's success.
