(coming from an 8th grade student) The majority of projects this school applies are online, while at the same time the wifi is extremely slow (to the point where students cannot sign in to the computers) and it hasn't been fixed in over a month. Most of the students are exremely disinterested in their work, often laying on the ground, eating in class, or even taking 40 minute bathroom breaks. One of the biggest things wrong with this school I feel is that the consequences are not enforced enough. Things slip through the cracks, teachers and staff let things go when they really shouldn't, and when they are enforced, they aren't nearly enough. The family engagement is minimal, other than the threat of, "I'm gonna text your mom," they sometimes get involved for behavioral issues. They currently only have one school counseler (to my knowledge) who's a white woman. And although I'm sure shes great at her job, that's not a great choice for a mostly Latino / black school. Many fights. Ive experienced and encountered situations where things are reported with no response / resolution. Even though its a small school it seems the admin can't handle the students. mosh pit-like groups form in the lunch lines. This year, (fall 2024) they switched to the canvas platform. Although the platform is helpful and does have qualities others don't, some of the teachers ( and most of the students) don't know how to use it. There was no lesson or even primer on what was happening before the switch, causing there to be messed up grades, missing feedback, and checkpoints and assignments teachers "can't" remove. What I find funny about the reviews for this school is all the parents seem to say its amazing, while the few student reviews are super low. On the positive side, the expedition experience is very interesting. since there are no art or music classes in regular learning, they take 2 week chunks out of the year (4 times a year) where you can pick creative classes that consist of: Mural art, urbanisam, low rider, soccer, roller skating, creative writing, yearbook, jujitsu, etc. the teachers truly try their hardest and put their all into their work, despite the disinterest from the students, they are trying to make sure they understand and can complete the material. They are supportive towards special needs students. And the campus is quite interesting, all in all, I wouldn't recommend this school, but the community is truly unique.

Smart, energetic, and dedicated teachers. Small class sizes. Tons of support (assistance with Chromebooks, home wifi setup). The Summit.org student interface helps kids see what assignments are due, whether they're on track, etc. My only concern is how overworked the teachers seem to be--there has been significant teacher turnover. I hope Summit leadership takes note and gives these teachers the support and work/life balance they need. Having stressed-out teachers doesn't lead to a positive school environment.

In middle school, my son missed, on average, one day a week due to anxiety and frustration around school and his ability to access education with his dyslexia and dysgraphia. At Summit, he is a straight-A student, loves school, and see's himself going to a good 4-year college.

Excellent. Great system and leadership. Enthusiastic teachers with a lot of energy. Interesting projects that give the students and idea what college will be like. College driven school. My son has become a good student, has good grades because he knows from the beginning of the year what the year expectations are for the core subjects. The classes are medium size so the teachers get to know the students very well and help with what they need during the year. Additionally, my son has a mentor that helps him every step of the way. There is a fluid communication between the teachers, mentor and parents.
