As a parent, I think my son had learned and improved a lot through out the years in Cantara Street Elementary. I am glad that he was in VAPA Magnet in his 5th grade because he had opportunity to learn and enjoy arts and music. I highly recommend the VAPA Magnet Program.

My daughter attended 5th grade of the VAPA magnet program and she did well. The input she had was wonderful and helped her blossom into a more confident child. She experienced many wonderful opportunities and the preparation for middle school has been thorough. I am extremely pleased with her experience at this school. I would highly recommend it.

Cantara Elementary has gone above and beyond my expectations as I recently moved here from the Midwest. The faculty at this school is ALL HEART. I have experienced first hand the loving and caring approach this group of teachers & staff use on a daily basis. They effectively communicate with parents and hold community / family events (such as movie night, etc) which gives that "small town feeling" and the sense of feeling safe. We all understand the hardships that come with being a part of LAUSD but this team works with what they have and are creative. Come be a part of a real school with a community backing and teachers who are developing our future stars. This elementary school is on track to be the example of what quality education is in this area.

The office staff is friendly and helpful and the teachers are supportive. Over the past several years we have enjoyed being a part of the Cantara community.

Cantara Street School has so much to offer! Teachers strive to educate the whole child. With the addition of Restorative Justice practices, students have become better communicators with their peers. Students engage with inspiring music and drama teachers and the upper grades benefit from a grant that brings in a professional dance teacher. This year the fifth graders took home a second place trophy! As parents we all need to make sure our students get the most from their elementary school experience. Good attendance is celebrated monthly.

Cantara Street Elementary School has given me an amazing and unforgettable experience. I hope that everyone that attends this school has just as an incredible experience as I did. The teachers are extremely supportive and I can say with confidence that I was ready for middle school.

The ONLY good thing about this school is it's Pre-School. Mrs. DeCardo is an excellent teacher. My child learned so much from her. Her current teacher is horrible! The staff in the front office are rude and act as though asking them a question is an inconvenience. My daughter use to love going to school now I have to fight with her to go. The proof is in the pudding.

My daughter went to pre-school and returning as kinder. For 2.5 hours a day, my daughter learned so much (theses kids at 4-5 years old learned 1-100, basis math and ABCs). I couldn't thank the teacher and teacher asst enough how much my daughter grew. It's sad that the pre-school program is ending. Cantara may be a low-income public school but it gave my daughter world-class preparation.

This school fosters a caring and learning environment. The community has been undergoing changes along with the economy these past few years, but kids are still well taught and fully engaged.

There are few teachers who actually care for the student. The principle doesn't care what complaints you have against a teacher, and act like your the only one who is to blame. As stated below they very much need to improve their bedside manner because they have horrible attitudes towards parents.

Pre-School teacher Mrs. South is one of the greatest teachers I have ever met. She is WONDERFUL!!!! This might not be one of the greatest schools, however there are some really great teachers.

Dumbing down of Gifted students & raising up of underacheivers. Feels "politically correct." My child has busted his but on projects and gotten under graded while Iv'e seen some pretty bad work that got great grades. Maybe the Teacher is evening the playing field, but it's upseting to see that hard work doesn't always get recognized. Thank goodness for the CST scores, they can't play with those.
