There were a few great teachers. On the other hand, there were some really bad teachers. The administration was the absolute worst of all.

We have had three students attend, and it has been a good experience.

My daughter is nearing the end of her first year at Grove as a 7th grader and I am very happy with the school. I really don't understand all of the negative comments about 'rich kids' being treated better, because my daughter is doing well, is liked by her teachers and is friends with kids who attended MIR as well as public school. We are considered low-income and I have never felt like my child was ostracized for this. While there are cliques just like any other school, she is very happy with the friends she has. I have always felt welcomed by staff and other parents. We have enjoyed seeing our child grow and participate in so many activities the public middle schools in Redlands do not offer.

I have two children at the school and have been very pleased with the quality of education. Academically, it maintains the highest scores in the Redlands school district. The students are by and large polite, well spoken, articulate, and interested in what they are learning. Each child is assigned an adult mentor from the staff, who helps guide the students on social and academic issues. This individual attention is a huge plus of the program. My children are able to hold intelligent and reasoned conversations about topics they are learning at a depth that impresses me--most of us don't get to that point until college. Maybe half of the students are from the Montessori k-6 school across the street. The rest come from all over Redlands and through inter-district transfers. There is socio-economic diversity and many kids from international backgrounds.

This school only cares about you if you are a Montessori student with wealthy parents. The teachers constantly disregarded my IEP, and refused to give me extensions on work, even when I was in the hospital. The only teacher who treated me like a human being was the middle school math teacher, Kate.

A wonderfully small community of students and teachers with a wholesome 'family' environment. Where there is a unique connection between the teachers and students - depending on the child, more or less. My son is in 9th grade and is quite happy - he looks forward to finishing his high school years at The Grove, with plans to attend college after.

This school prepares students for real life. They are taught real life application along with all of the core curriculum. Each student is responsible for their education and participate in community service and internships. So that when they graduate they are able to tackle anything life hands them. I would recommend this school to any student 7th through 12th grade.

I have been attending this school for 4 years, and all I have to say is: don't send your child here past 9th grade. I went here to get away from all the cliques, and it just might be worse here. If you did not attend the adjacent private Montessori school, you will always be ostracized. You will always be considered lower than them, and feel like an outsider. There are groups of private school students that feel the need to bully and single out others because they are not rich and did not attend private school. They have no concept of real life and think that donating expensive materials for fundraisers is acceptable. If your student wants to do anything in leadership, they will be expected to spend money (out of pocket) and not be reimbursed. There are no consequences for students who openly defy teachers and administrators, and no consequences for students who bully others. If your parents did not pay thousands of dollars for your elementary education you will be looked at skeptically by teachers, students, and other parents if you wish to take higher/AP classes. If students are told "no" then they stomp their feet and whine, and have their parents come in and throw a fit. I believe that this environment is extremely unhealthy for students who did not attend the private Montessori and do not recommend it past grade 9. All the teachers and administrators are great, except for the High School science teacher. I have not learned a single thing from him. The only thing keeping me here are the teachers and the athletics.

This school has a great reputation but unfortunately the reality of it is that it's all a lie. We fought to get our children enrolled into Grove and are sorry we did. Unless you come from the montessori back ground you are treated 2nd class. Teachers play favorites among the students. The principal and teachers are nice to your face but don't turn your back or ever let your guard down. This school cares more about families with money .If you don't come from a wealthy family your child will not be happy or treated fair here.On the plus side the farm has a few good teachers such as their Math,History ,PE and wood shop who are fair and teach from their hearts but once your student moves up be ready for a fight. At the high school the only teachers who truly cares and are fair to all students treating them equally is the History and Spanish teachers.

Name dropper mom is a perfect example of what you can expect from Grove School if your child isn't a product of the Montessori private school. Self-promoting and completely oblivious to how elitist and alienating their behavior is. Their entitled children expect special treatment from teachers, coaches and classmates. If you are rich and white, your kid will probably do fine here. Make sure you are prepared to spend thousands of dollars preparing for the SATs. Otherwise, the local public high schools are far superior and do a much better job preparing students for college and the real world.

I have been attending this school for 5 years, and if I wasn't so close to graduating, I would leave. The school is full of entitled and elitist private school students that snub kids coming in from public schools. It's people like name dropper mom - people that feel the need to note their and their daughter's educational accomplishments on a review for a school - that make public school kids feel inferior. Students are constantly expected to pitch in money to pay for field trips to beaches and resorts because the private school kids stomp their feet and whine if they don't get their way. Students get accepted to "top tier universities like USC, UC Berkeley, and UCLA" because their parents paid exorbitant fees for SAT prep and elementary education. Unless you have the $10K/year to send your kid to the adjacent private school, they're probably going to be alienated and ostracized here. Not to mention, the science and math programs are absolutely incompetent. Student and parent complaints have been brushed off for years, and no positive change is in sight.

We have been parents at The Grove School for 10 years now. We have 3 children with very different learning skill sets and learning styles. Before they attended Grove they went to public school in Redlands. They choose to switch to this small community based school with college prep academics and have been very successful students. The academic program has changed, been tweaked, and adapted over the years to better follow both Montessori pedagogy and public school requirements. This program suits motivated, independent and goal directed students. I'd sign my kids up all over again and wish for every high school students to get learning opportunities like this.

This school is full of elitist parents and entitled students. Priority enrollment in this publicly funded school is given to students who attended the $10k per year private elementary school. Students from public schools are treated as a necessary evil, and outsiders who's purpose is to reach enrollment goals. The board will not respond to parent complaints, and the principal is dismissive of parental concerns, making parents feel like they are trouble makers if they approach him with an issue. The school did not disclose that the volleyball coach was a convicted felon until parents discovered it in public record after the season was over. The science teacher at the high school is completely inept. Specific parents were recently approached and asked to submit positive reviews of Grove in order to "push down" previous negative reviews. The positive reviewer who name dropped all the colleges and her and her husbands professional degrees is clearly out of touch with the majority if she thinks the negative reviews were "planted." In fact, her experience is such an anomaly that she was immediately identifiable to the school community based on her review.

Excellent school with focus on community (among all students, teachers, and administration), developing independence as a learner, while fostering collaboration, as well. The teachers are dedicated. My child attended 7-12 and got accepted to top tier universities like USC, UC Berkeley, and UCLA, to name a few. Academics are important to my spouse and me--we both have professional and graduate degrees and hold the school to a high standard. Check out The Grove's high API scores. The recent low-star ratings by some other people seem "planted." The school is diverse. It does reflect the surrounding community's diversity as well as any other middle or high school in Redlands.

The demographics of the students at the Grove School are not representative of the Redlands community and surrounding areas. This may be because a significant number of students here are from the adjacent private school, Montessori in Redlands. The lack of diversity is troubling and appears to be a systemic problem. In addition, there are a number of students with emotional/behavioral disorders and learning disabilities. It is questionable whether these issues are being adequately addressed. It seems that these issues are generally downplayed (and sometimes even normalized) in a Montessori environment, so some staff members may be reticent to acknowledge the severity of problems and to refer children for appropriate treatment. Finally, the percent of all students scoring at proficient in math is alarmingly low.

Not as good as it once way years back. Grovel is a free public charter school. The Redlands District does not have any control over what happens at the Grove there is no accountability for the actions that goes on in the school. This school needs to be overhauled.

I would say I would rather have my children attend at another school. This school is under new leadership and better quality of staff and education can be found at other school locations through out the district.Plus if you have a Junior HIgh kid, this school has no air conditioning on the Junior High Campus.

This schools values and beliefs are great on paper. However, they are totally lost in the actual translation. Terrible choice as the school has been edging toward shut down multiple times. Children laying down in the middle of the street, completely unsupervised, while they switch classes from one campus to another. No cross walks, no crossing guards, NO SAFETY!!!

My son has come from a private school where I have paid a TON of money for a great education. I wish this school could provide k-12 as a free charter school. He always hated school...now he loves school and is just doing amazingly well. He now understands and likes math! He is more responsible and less stressed. This school is the best kept secret in Redlands.
