Our time with Mire Elementary is about to come to an end as our 8th grader is about to spread his wings and fly on to high school. It has been bittersweet handling the flood of pure positive emotion coming to realization that new chapters are about to begin. My grandson has developed beyond leaps and bounds since coming to Mire in the 5th grade. We are forever better as a family because of Mire, as well as forever grateful to Mire for not conveyor belt teaching; recognizing that each child learns differently.

I agree with the parent posting about "not being one of them" if the teachers and staff do not personally know the parents, or relatives of the child attending mire elementary, apparently not every rule in the student handbook relates to your child. I know my child is bullied and picked on everyday, and issues seem to be overlooked because this is an ongoing everyday occourance, but when my child gets reported by other students for standing up for herself, it's considered "being bossy and rude" and " will not be tolerated ", my child still manages to maintain an A average, and is considered by all of her teachers as "one of the smartest kids in the class" With certain rules being " left up to the discretion of the principal " I have noticed first hand...what is wrong for one is right for the other, and what one is told, applies only in certain situations and appropriate times.

I am sorry about the last reviewer's message about their kids not feeling a part of the community. We really do go out of our way to acclimate incoming new students to the way things run at Mire Elementary. Most parents and students LOVE the discipline and the way we handle kids that step over the boundaries. We also have one of the BEST anti-bullying campaigns in Acadia parish! We have excellent after school programs, including BETA, robotics, Science club, 4H, band, and many others. We are an "A" rated school for a reason! Our real problem is over crowding because everyone wants to be a part of it!

The problem with this school is that it is in a close-knit community. If you aren't from here, you aren't "one of them." It is very hard for your kids to fit in and to have your concerns addressed properly because the administration and staff don't know you and your family. I've had children and grandchildren attend here for the last 17 years and it's still the same. It's hard for non-natives to fit in.

I have 3 children who attend Mire and I couldn't be any happier. Mire is a small country school where everyone knows each other. This school is more like a family than a school. I'm proud to tell people my children are a part of the Mire Elem family.

I was once a student at Mire Elementary and now my three children attend. I couldn't be happier with the way this school handles out children they always make sure every child feels special and all the teachers work very hard to make sure that the kids learn to the best of their ability.
