1 star is too many for this school. The only reason anyone goes here is to get an automatic seat at Pompano Beach High. Trust me when I say that your child will not be prepared for the rigorous curriculum at PBHS after attending Crystal Lake. One year at that school, and my childs FSA scores dropped & reading level dropped. Tremendously. Thank goodness for the competent teachers at the middle school across town where I moved my child. One quarter, and he is back on track from all of the damage done at Crystal Lake. If you are a 5th grade parent who is in the tough dilemma of deciding which middle school to send your child to, DO NOT choose this one. Do not fall for the jazzy shows and presentations this school does to entice you to apply for their magnet program. It was 100% false advertising.

Oh my God, why does depression and anxiety exist? That is exactly what I got from this school. This school also sadly gave me dark thoughts of doing something to myself. Look at my reasons below. Don't come here no matter what. If you want to learn a language learn Spanish in a classroom at school or if you want to learn French or Chinese theres an app called Duolingo to learn it. Whats the point of science magnet if theres a science class everyday anyway?

My daughter is in 8th grade in the IAB (language magnet-Spanish). She has done well in the program and we are thrilled that she will be continuing her education in Pompano Beach High School. The time at CLMS has gone so fast and we just applied today to high school!

Fun learning environment, pleasant teachers! Avoid "Chinese" magnate program only! There is only one teacher for this subject and is very difficult to understand her English. The Chinese language is challenging enough without having the added stress of dealing with trying to understand this woman. Many students have requested to be transferred out of her class for this reason. My recommendation is to take "Spanish" or "French" instead. You're be glad you did!

The best middle school in Pompano Beach. My child getting A's & B's now. I'm so proud.

The best middle school in Pompano Beach! The administration and teachers treat their students like family. It's no wonder that the magnate coordinator at Pompano Beach Middle, Jannette Thompson-Irwin, even sent her own son to this fantastic school. Most of my child's friends at Crystal Lake have parents that are teachers from other Broward County schools. It seems to me that this is the school that teachers send their own children to!

Awesome school and staff. Just a word of advice to make your child's experience more enjoyable, AVOID GEM MATH! It crams 3 years of math in one year and the amount of homework is outrageous. My child has been up until midnight finishing up the GEM MATH homework and that doesn't include the homework that she has in any other classes. There have been several classmates that have left the class after destroying their GPA's taking GEM (which you need to maintain to stay in the magnate program). Many parents I have spoken with regret their children taking GEM math.

The staff here are aware that three years is extremely short in your lifetime of about 100 years, so they make the best out of it. They go on MANY field trips to theme parks, museums, cities, and even to buffets! The way they discipline the kids is if they do one bad thing, they go straight to B.C., which is an in-school-suspension instead of going to your normally scheduled classes. Instead of favoritism at some schools, the grades you get are the ones you work for. Little things make this school honorable!

I have both of my kids in the International Affairs and Business program. I am so happy with the program! We have had wonderful teachers. The magnet coordinator, Mrs. McCrary is the best! Always helpful! Highest quality education!!!

I can see why our school was featured on NBC6's "Brag About Your School" (Google It!) We have an amazing principal, Ms Sabine Phillips as well as 3 dedicated assistant principals...Ben Reeves, Shaante Collie and Dr. Tiffany Peterson! There are so many clubs and activities for students to enjoy. Also, their field trips are out of this world!

OUTSTANDING MAGNET PROGRAM!!! My child attends the International Affairs and Business magnet program at Crystal Lake. We have experienced an amazing group of dedicated educators. Now wonder there is always a waiting list to get into this program. Middle school can be a scary experience but don't listen to the negativity especially if you are looking to place your child in a well established, well run magnet program.

Luckily I graduated before the new principal started changing things. The teachers are ok but most of them have left or are leaving. I didn't have any issues with bullying but I did see a lot of other kids getting bullied. There are usually fights between the students. Most of the students are disrespectful to the teachers. I don't recommend sending your child here its a very bad school. The academy is gone so don't even bother taking the time to go see the school.

Magnet program is comparable to any ordinary public school's regular curriculum. Discipline is lax. Administration doesn't support teachers. Teachers were encouraged to 'show documentaries' rather than teach

There were five student started fires in the 2014-15 school year. The fire alarm went off for two of them, and only one was acknowledged to be a fire. What kind of school pulls the plug on the /fire alarm/?

I put my child in this school on recommendation of his fifth grade teacher. It was the worst mistake i have ever made. The principal and magnet coordinator changed the summer before school started. I really don't think i have ever encountered more incompetent and useless administrators. They were defensive, did not return phone calls, ignored messages, did not want to meet in person and had absolutely zero sympathy about bullying and the general chaos at this school. Ignore the good reviews some people post... they have never seen a well run school. Don't just walk away from this school...run. Seriously.

I feel the need to write a review because of all the negative reviews. My child has excelled in the magnet program. Dr. Peterson is a godsend to this school she has zero tolerance for bad behavior and foresters a positive learning environment.

I am not getting detailed but I removed my child from this school. My younger child will not be enrolled when it is her time for middle school.
