I will start by saying that I have many friends who have gotten lucky and had great teachers at PHE. There is also an awesome parent community here. However, if your child has any special needs/learning disabilities, this school may not be a good fit for you. I removed my children following concerns around:1. Safety - my kindergartener’s teacher continuously allowed the children to leave at the end of the school day while she sat at her desk, not checking to see if the parent was there. Even after bringing it to the attention of the principal MULTIPLE times, it continued to be a problem. I was often redirecting 5 year olds back to their classrooms as I found them wandering the halls looking for their parent.2. Even though new school psychologist is highly collaborative, it is clear the school simply does not have the resources to support children with special needs/moderate learning disabilities. The reality is the classrooms are packed full and they don’t have many aids. Teachers are tired and also not up to date with tools to help students with unique needs. After years of phone calls to home, and one instance of them misplacing my older child for nearly 20 minutes, I knew it wasn’t going to be a good fit.Once again - if your kiddo does not have special needs/learning disabilities, this could be a good fit for you.

Great school with fantastic teachers who take the time to invest in the kids. Our 2 kids 10 and 7 are currently enrolled and they are thriving as a result of all the attention they get. Reading the ratings, I think they have been unfairly impacted by the equity ratings which don't reflect our experience at the PHE at all.

Our experience with this school -- two kids over eight years - was awesome. Great teachers, a diverse student body, and a really engaged PTA with so many parents volunteering everywhere! We really loved the strong sense of community.

It’s an amazing school, but equity is poor

School has pictures of very young students on google maps (pictureview or grap the yellow man). The husband of a volunteer teacher took these 360 degree photos in which you can scroll in and see all the faces etcetera. Principal and secretary got noticed to take care of it. Instead of addressing it with the photographer they decided to address it with google. From our point of view Google is well known ("googlization of everything") for a certain form of reaction in cases like this. Needless to say that weeks later the pictures are still online. School has some great teachers but is not a safe place, too many people with the wrong mindset. Needs to change, hence the publishing.

This school is quite great. My kids are getting along pretty well. Activities are diverse and well-designed for children.

I agree with the review below mine. We have been at this school for 2 years, this year the school is full (the enrollment on Great Schools is showing as 662, this is wrong and is in fact over 700), the teaching staff are overwhelmed and the school depends more and more on parental support. If your child has issues with reading or math at a lower grade level then help is available and support is provided. But should your child be excelling at grade level, or need help past 3rd Grade, then there is a huge gap and you will not receive any help here. The school really needs to concentrate more on lowering the class sizes, supporting the students who are potentially honor roll students and supporting their overworked staff. We are now considering a move to another school district, MDUSD is providing poor support to it's schools and really need to take a long hard look at how their "fads" are affecting our future generation.

I've seen a notable decline this school year in the overall environment. The school seems more crowded, morning traffic is terrible, the kitchen cannot efficiently process all children at lunch time leading to very short lunch periods (about 10 minutes to eat...sometimes less if one doesn't pack a lunch). My child's teacher seems overwhelmed because of large class sizes and having no help from an aid. The implementation of common core is inconsistent, and children correct their own common core homework that is not always reviewed by the teacher. Is there another school that PHE can model with regard to common core...or are all schools struggling with this transition?

This school is amazing! I have had amazing teachers for the past 5 years that my kids have gone here. The parents are so involved and supportive, the principal is amazing. The extracurricular after school programs are fantastic. The teachers truly care about the education of our children and pushing them to be better students and polite children who also look out for their peers and friends.

This school is amazing. It is very diverse, and the teachers are wonderful and caring. My daughter who is in 1st grade has grown so much in the past year academically and emotionally due in most part to the dedication of the teachers and the principal. The school also has a great after-school enrichment program.

My child's fifth grade teacher is too rough and strict on her. She really wants to switch teachers. Every other teacher that she had were excellent. Don't try to get room 25. It's just too rough on children.

I have 2 children in PHE, and every year have remarked that they are so lucky to be students here. Excellent teachers and administration. They both love school and excel on test scores, due in part, to the great teachers! Most important, they have a love for learning and are surrounded by great kids! PHE is truly a public school - there are kids from a wide variety of backgrounds. The parent support is outstanding, and is backed by thousand of dollars every year in donations - which goes right to academics!
