My son has had a great experience at St. Bernard High School. The teachers have been very helpful and the new administration is really making an effort to make things better for the students.

This school is awesome in so many ways. The student to teacher ratio is tremendous. I know of a few kids graduating here in the past 6 years have gone on to great Universities such as Gonzaga University, Howard University, LMU, UCLA , Dartmouth and several others. The academics are stellar and prepares students for college and life. The Sports programs are becoming a force to be reckoned with especially Boys Basketball, Baseball, Soccer and now Football, along side Girls Soccer and Girls Basketball. The administration is one of a kind and with the affordable tuition I see the school continually to grow rapidly.

St. Bernard's High School has been a great school for our son. Not only on all academic levels, or as an athlete but is also becoming a thriving young man learning about Religion and enriching moral values- which we as parents, also implement at home. Our son entered as a Freshman, and will become a Junior this Fall. He had been selected to embark in a Leadership program with LMU and has learned many leadership/ networking tools which will prepare him for the college world. I cannot rave enough about our Staff, Teachers and Bernard students and families! Our highly qualified teachers are AMAZING and work closely with every student and are very communicative with parents. Teachers and Staff go over and beyond to support our children and no matter how busy, always make the time to listen. Looking where my son is now and all opportunities he is offered with being in smaller school, only re-affirms we made the right decision by coming to Bernard's! Our younger son will also attend in the Fall as an incoming Freshman, he is very excited and looking forward to as much success his brother has had as a Viking! L.G.

SBHS saved my daughters academic life. After getting Ds and Fs during her freshman year at a very competitive Orange County high school, she found her way at SBHS. The small class size, faculty & counselor support and overall environment motivated her to become a serious student. After receiving all As and Bs she attended a major PAC 12 university where she graduated in less than four years and now has a successful professional career. SBHS made her accountable and she responded. A Viking forever!

As a parent and former student, I'm very dissatisfied with the leadership at St. Bernard this year. Teachers that have been around for years are leaving midyear, and the constant fundraising have left a bad taste in my mouth. I will be searching for another school for my youngest child.

Mediocrity at its best! A big disappointment. I've found that parents who are satisfied with the level of academics, extracurriculars, services and support provided by the faculty and staff have extremely low expectations and do not have any idea what an incoming college freshman at a top-rated university, looking to compete on a global scale looks like. These kids graduate with wonderful grades in their senior year, some get accepted into decent colleges and universities and then find that they were not prepared to compete with their fellow peers from other schools around the country. I've seen it myself with several of the kids and its very sad. I suppose if you're simply looking for a school that will shelter your child, by having an extremely small population, adhere to uniforms and provide a safe, gang-free environment, then you should be fairly please with this school. However, this school looks like a joke compared to othe college prep, private and independent schools in the Los Angeles area. To send your child to this school is to limit their scope of reality in such a severe way that he/she will be severely unprepared to survive and compete at a college level.

We are new to SBHS this year - we are very happy. We are also a very involved family and have our hand in many things offered. Everyone knows each other, the students are very respectful always addressing parents as Mr. and Mrs. It does have some issues - all schools do, however they are being addressed. There are a lot of rumors that are simply just not true but I guess you have to be part of the SBHS family to know that. Despite all the rumors and bad information we were fed by various people, once we shared our intent to attend SBHS, we stuck to our guns and have not regretted our decision; not one day! Do not listen to the rumors, come see for yourself what a great opportunity this hidden gem of a school has to offer your son or daughter. Go VIkings!

SBHS was one of my top two choices of school. It has only been 60 days and the teachers appear to be awesome. The office lady is wonderful. It has made me concern because I find that the communication from the upper management is terrible. I am wondering if I made the wrong choice.

Our family loves SBHS! I have to admit that SBHS was not first on our list when we were scouting schools for our child. We had not visited or contacted the school, but relied solely on rumors that this might not be our best choice. The principal of our child's elementary school encouraged us to take a look at SBHS. She outlined SBHS commitment to academics by using student/teacher ratios (15:1), Honors/AP programs and percentage of graduates accepted to college (98%). Even though we were offered admission to another Catholic HS, we visited SBHS and decided to enroll our child in summer school to see if it could truly be good fit for our child. IT WAS! Our child has many new friends and loves the teachers. As parents, we couldn't be more pleased in the level of dedication the faculty, staff and school families extend to the learning and personal growth of each child. I urge anyone reading this to seriously consider SBHS when facing the important decisions of finding the right educational and life-enriching environments for your son or daughter.

This school is rapidly disintegrating, and I would be surprised if it is still open by the end of the 2012-2013 school year. A new principal has come in and teachers, administrators and coaches have departed. There has been no continuity of eduction with teachers leaving in the middle of the year. It is sad, the school has potential, but you got to figure there is a lack of spirit when the 10 and 0 football coaching staff and nearly the entire team left 3 weeks before school was to start. And the Basketball coach that took them to the state championship also departed with the bulk of the basketball team

My son is currently a senior. I have an 8th grader and I'm currently on this website searching for another high school. That should tell you how I feel about SBHS. The facade is great (grand entrance, lovely flowers etc..) but I felt that the most important thing at this school are $$. Oh yes, did I mention money? From the yearly $300 raffle tickets, $300 xmas trees, thats in addition to the $700+ monthly tuition. Before you select this school, search hard for other alternatives.

This is not a large school but the small class sizes and excellent selection of courses makes this the perfect school for students who are serious about attending a great university.

this school has barely any extracurriculars, they are very money hungry, the only thing that is important to that school is sports (which aren't that good). The only good teacher there now is Mr. Mallen and Mr. Caulfield. I been attending Bernard's for my whole high school life and let me tell you it wasnt the best experience. parents please dont torture your child by making them go here. Go to El Segundo instead plus u wont have to pay :)
