Whew, where do I start?! Stewart School has so much potential. When they launched their Dual Immersion program I felt that it was a GREAT move so long as the school had the resources to go along with it. Fast forward years later, handfuls of students are ending up YEARS behind their peers academically due to this program and it isn’t being communicated that the child is behind until years down in their educational journey. They are not following the 50/50 model presented years ago, instead the just have gone full throttle with incorporating Spanish language and culture heavily into the school as a whole. The principal seems unhinged likely due to lack of resources, teachers, subs, etc. The middle school kids have been screamed at so loudly by him, that “his voice was cracking” is what was described by some of the students. Inexcusable behavior coming from a principal. They are throwing out more 0 tolerance policies and fundraisers to find the teachers classrooms (which I understand to an extent) rather than redirection when there’s over stimulation, and a sign up sheet for parent volunteers. The teachers are too busy to confirm volunteer emails, I’ve experienced this first hand. If your child so much as speed walks through the halls, it will grant them a call home and detention. All the way down to our TK & K littles. Post-pandemic, all elementary school teachers no matter the ratio, should either have an aide or volunteer present. Especially dual language teachers. They’ve incorporated a ton of new curriculum likely to raise these test scores, but if the kids are unhappy with the environment the scores will suffer either way. I hope that things shape up with the administration soon because Stewart itself is such an amazing, family oriented place to be if it’s led by the right person.

Our son spent two disastrous years at this school's "Bilingual" program. He learned nothing, neither how to read or any semblance of a phonics approach to reading even though Spanish is a phonetic language. We decided to place him in an English only program only to find out that he was extremely low academically and very frustrated at his lack of knowledge just about everything. Imagine going into a third grade classroom after not gaining any academic level of learning and expected to perform at grade level standards. He feels like he is a loser and he is often bullied by other kids in the classroom due to his outbursts of frustrated anger at being expected to do work in which he lacks the instructional background. i am at the point of finding another school as this school fails to meet his educational, emotional and social needs.Signed,Frustrated and angry parent

People are forcing these middle school girls to use the GROWN MEN'S bathroom and they don't let the middle school boys use the bathroom either. Many are uncomfortable with this situation.

The bathrooms are still closed and people cant just access them.

Don't allow boys to use the bathroom also forces girls to use the men's teachers' bathroom girls have also said they are uncomfortable and don't feel safe to be able to use the bathroom. As a parent, I'm considering removing my children from this school.

School never has teachers and every single day a teacher has to sub for another one. They have a Spanish program which is cool but it just doesn’t seem to be good. It’s separated from all the other classes and in the middle school Spanish they have to stay in the same class all day. How is that preparing them for high school? Besides just checking the ratings alone doesn’t back it up either.

The Principal Dr. Aloo makes personal contact with each classroom daily. He is visible and available to the students during passing periods, lunch & recesses. Students sometimes have to wait or leave a message for him, but are able to speak with him re their concerns and issues depending on his calendar, within a reasonable period of time. He works with the students to assist them at being involved and a party to the resolutions of issues. He returns calls and keeps appointments with parents within a 48 hour time period. He will leave you a message, schedule a conference or resolve your concern asap. He will communicate given the opportunity. Pleased to know he is returning to Stewart for 2016-2017.

My son is in the PILOT Dual Immersion program, and I love it, my family loves it, and my son loves it! Sra. Hernandez is a gem. She truly loves her profession. WCCUSD...take care of this teacher, we don't want to lose her!

After FINALLY finding this school and switching my 2 older children here. I can finally say that I am SO HAPPY with this school for my children! The teachers are engaged, the staff friendly, helpful and informative. The NEW Principle Dr. Aloo is personable, strict with love, in touch with his students and parents and he is making some amazing changes to the school that promote an environment that is efficient! While there are children there that have behavioral issues. What I see most is genuine friendships forming. Every morning I see my daughter and her friends welcome each other with a hug! It's so refreshing! My only wish is that Parent Involvement were higher. We as parents have to be there to support the teachers and the staff in what they are trying to do for our children. Looking forward to a long stay at Stewart Elementary!

Worst school I've ever seen. Worst district, too. Principal (Butcher) didn't step up and protect the kids. Teachers are allowed to be bullies(Muller & Smith). Students bully and there are no repercussions. Safety is not a concern at all. The school is never completely secured. Anyone can walk in. And anyone can drive up, pick up your child after school, and no one would notice, because not one person on the staff can be bothered to step outside to keep an eye on the children. Do not send your child here! They won't get an education. There are a few good teachers, so if you go there, hope to get them. Lock, Loy & Cunha. Loved these teachers.
