The school has much improved in recent years. The change in the principal has been a very positive change. Principal Mapes cares about the the students and wears it on his sleeve. Teachers and staff have done a much better job of building a positive environment for students, so there has been an increase in student learning and a decrease in fights and behavior problems. The school is very diverse, and they offer a great selection of elective classes, including tech, music, culinary arts, two languages, and leadership. The quality of teachers has also improved in recent years. It is definitely a school making a big turnaround.

I am a parent who has been dealing with the teachers and admin for the past 2 years and it has been a nightmare! What happened to teachers who are there for more then a paycheck? I have reached out multiple times for support with my son and on 3 parent teacher conferences 1 teacher didn't show up at all. This school needs to get it together to help these kids who are going through so much transition emotionally and externally and demonstrate through strong leadership how to deal with life on life's terms. I really dislike that my kids have to experience this place!

I am a student here, and I'm in 7th grade. Just by being here for a little bit over 6 months, this school is okay. Compared to other middle schools in the district, its like prim and proper school here. Its sad to see that we have this beautiful new building, and this badly behaviored students just totally treat it like its a piece of garbage. Most students have NO manner whatsoever, and they totally run the school. Theres maybe 5 teachers who actually care about the students here, and most of them are sexist, racist, or just totally unfair in general. I have learned, but I feel as if I haven't learned enough this year, I'm in all advanced classes and have all A's and B's. This school can do better. They have very unreasonable discipline, for example, for 3 weeks straight we had to be on "lock down" during lunch because we were littering. It meant we had to stay in our seats until the next period. I think thats unreasonable because that makes the bad kids worse! They shouldn't take it out on everyone. The bathrooms are okay, but they smell, and a bunch of the locks don't work! If you want your child to get harrassed by ghetto kids and not get a good education I suggestprivateschool

I am currently a student at this school and i want to say this school has been a dissapointment. Yes, there is strict ruling but academically I dont feel its good. I have all advanced classes and was glad to be there at first, but I figured out all it means is more homework. Last year I attended Manzanita Charter School which is also a middle school, there i almost skipped the grade and managed to go into an 8th grade algebra class. There was connection between teachers students and parents it becomes one big family and they make sure you get the work level you need. Now that I am in Pinole though My grades have been going down and I used to be a 4.0 student. The only one of my teachers that are actually good id my science teacher. Regret coming here want to go back
