DISAPPOINTING ......I have been truly disappointed. The teachers are negative, lazy and expect nothing from the students. My children arrived with a 4 on the EOG'S and by the time they departed were making a 3 in Reading and Math and a 2 on the Science EOG. The principal(s) seem to have the same agenda of keeping it a Title 1 school. Morehead and KIPP have teachers who care and expect great things from their students and that's why they get results. Parents aren't involved because they really don't want them to be.

I sometimes volunteer in the school as a parent helper when I can and I see what the teachers face every day. It is amazing that they come back every day as many kids aren't raised like my kids are to respect all rules and do homework and and get good grades. i want an education for my kids and the way it is at Sterling the teachers are not like other schools in the area. i am in the classrooms a lot and no matter what the kids say the teachers love the kids and push the kids to learn the things they need to know. i love mrs. stanley and before that mrs Breeland in second grade. we were not there before that but lord knows we should have been at sterling for all that happened at the other school and the changes. They also gave my family food last year one time and I don't even know how they knew we needed it. This school is a blessing and all the people Ms. Wardy, Ms. Reid, Ms. Miles, and the lady at the front - the counselor Ms. Edwards. The difference is I have never seen a school that cares this much like a family.

Confused and Frustrated!!! I don't know what is going on in the classrooms of this school but one thing I do know is that, my child is not progressing at all. I thought kids are suppose to go to school to learn, not to learn less. They stress so much about parent involvement but what about teacher involvement...I know for a fact I'm doing my part! The first year my daughter attended this school the teacher made it seem as if the issue was with my daughter and that she was below her grade average. That was very confusing to me considering the fact my daughter had just come out of a school in which she was on the honor roll for 2 year straight. So the next school year I put her in a private school where once again (not to my surprise) she was on the honor roll again, THROUGH OUT the school year! This year I couldn't afford to put her back in the private school so she had to go back to Sterling...Why are we encountering the same issues again. I am so confused and frustrated! One more thing, why is there a new principal and new teachers almost every year? I'm still kind of new to the Charlotte area and I'm just trying t figure this thing out...My child's education is in jeopardy!!!

GREAT TEACHERS!!!! I am a volunteer from a local community organization and am blown away by how nice, loving and wonderful the staff is every single day. They have high expectations for the kids but make it fun like a game. I wish I had learned like that! I have been in other schools in Charlotte and have never felt as at home as I do here. Thank you amazing Sterling staff! M

The new principal Mrs. Wardy came after this school year started and has seemed to save the day. She seems to care so much about my boys at this school and I feel like she watches out for them like a Mom first. she one time told my child to not sass me when he tried to in a meeting. She listens to me when I have a complant about the teacher and even when my boyfriend raised his voice at her she stays so calm and treated me the same later. she goes to the teacher and things get smoothed out real fast and the teacher did right with answering me after that. It is strange that I have had my children there across 8 years at different times and the same staff members are nicer people . I don't know what she is doing but she seems like a someone who has in a sho0rt time made Sterling a hapier place for everyone to be. My nieghbors say that too.

I have to agree with all the comments made about the principal..She is very rude. She has a "I could care less" attitude. She even looked at you when you passed by her with a smug look on her face. I also agree that they have given parents a "bad taste in their mouth" making parents not even want to volunteer. I went a long with my daughter's class on a field trip and I saw how one of the teachers kept yelling at one of the kids. We left Sterling about 2 months ago. And if I even ask my daughter if she wants to go back she gets very upset and almost starts crying. Do yourself and your child a favor ..Even if you have to drive out of the way. Don't send your kids to this school..

While this school has a couple of good teachers, overall the faculty-and especially the principal-are jokes! My advice-run as fast as you can to another school in your district! I wish I would've known they were a Title I, and that I was able to choose a different, better performing school in the district. It would've saved me alot of headaches, and my children alot of frustration and undue stress!!!

Sterling has been a low performing school; however, the new principal and conscientious teachers have championed improvement. The building and grounds are excellent, and inside is spotlessly clean. There is positive energy exhibited by the administration, teachers, and, most importantly, the students. Sterling is an "up and comer".

This school is all about how good they look and are not sincere about the children overall. She blames the children and parents and does not hold her teachers accountable. The principal is horrible and has no people skills and has fired a lot of good teachers. She does not treat the parents with respect and that is why they have no parent involvement. It starts at the top and they made a grave mistake making the new principal the lead. Her bad attitude is trinkling down and hurting the children.

The school security sucks!! My daughter is a Kindergartener..The 2nd day of school I was there to pick her up in the "car riders" line and the bell rang and the kids came out. Well, My daughter just walked right up to the car and said "Hi mommy".. The only teacher in sight was on the other side of the side walk with her back turned. Also. They do not ask for your ID when you pick your child up. They have no way of making sure that you are who you say you are and are leaving with the right child. I just told them my daughters first name only and go get her and put her in the car. I just feel like the sercurity is not the greatest. Having a sign that says "this is a safe school" doesn't make it safe.

My daughter has been a student at Sterling since Kindergarten and now she is a rising 3rd grader. The school used to have a bad image but now with the help of the new Principal, Ms. Guzman, the school has completely turned around. My child has thrived and done so well at this school thanks in part to the dedicated and professional Teachers that she has had while at this school. Many people over look schools like this because they listen to others and don't discover on their own. I do not care what others think my child has learned a great deal and she will continue to successed with my help.
