McNear cares deeply about their students. The integrated arts and science programs are impressive, as students learn in context with hands-on experiences that create true authentic learning. Students, families, and our community are open and inclusive. Teachers are committed and focused on the whole-child.

We started our child at McNear in the fall of 2019. She had an excellent experience despite the pandemic ending in person kindergarten in March 2020. The school immediately went into distance learning with an iPad given to us at home, excellent resources, reasonable time for kids to be on screens (3 twenty minute classes of live time); then pre-recorded lessons to do on our own time. The teachers were creative (singing and playing ukulele from a tree, weekly meditation such as sipping and smelling a hot chocolate and encouragement for movement). Our child still had meaningful connection with her peers, drive by birthdays, and a lot of support through the first grade. Parents were involved as well with photo shoots and projects such as making ceramic pots, complete with glaze and kiln firing. They returned to hybrid learning in the late spring of 2021 and I felt the school was very sensitive and professional to put our kids health first. With staggered entry and exits etc. McNear is a cute campus, one of the few with swings, green grass, large trees for shade, rose garden, veggie garden etc. it’s quiet and lovely. I wish we could have stayed but we relocated out of the area for work. We’re supposedly in a better rated school by “great schools” but so far the new school does not compare. There’s so much more to a great school. Kids need green grass, fresh air, supportive kind teachers, not just passing tests. The curriculum at McNear has been more advanced and interesting compared to the new school we’re in (rated 10/10), we’re on week 3 so it is early.

Bad experience all together. Parents were friendly and well mannered for the most part. But the lack of accountability of students causes an environment where the brats rule.

The principal should be replaced . She is very unprofessional. She can't manage her job well.

This is our second year at McNear and we love it! The Kindergarten program was amazing! We are most impressed by the strong community at McNear and the cultural and socioeconomic diversity. When touring the school, you will see parent volunteers in every classroom. There is an amazing garden, P.E. 2-3 times a week, credentialed music teachers teaching music once a week, Art Docents, a strong PTA, and more! The Principal is thoughtful and responsive and the community-building activities are excellent.
