Perry Lecompton is an very engaged school district. The middle school teachers and admin are down to earth and accepting. As a minority family coming from a large school district to PL we were skeptical at first, but very blown away with their diverse cultures and community focused goals. The kids volunteer doing food drives for locals in need. Teachers have established clubs for entrepreneurship, building, and STCO.

Both my spouse and I attended public school in small, rural Kansas towns (no where near the PL district). We wanted our children to experience the same, so at the middle school level, we transferred them to Perry-Lecompton Middle School. We already knew that students from other families in Topeka / Lawrence were attended PL schools for the same reason, but we were surprised to find out that many students from other area smaller towns surrounding the PL district attended PL as well. We considered this a good sign! By the end of our eldest child's first year at PLMS, we knew that we had made the right decision. We were concerned that our child might want to return to our home district, but there was absolutely no interest in transferring back. This made our next child eager to transfer. Our experience confirmed why PL has so many out of district students attending. The PLMS staff is caring, fun and challenging. They consistently communicate with parents through newsletters, phone calls, and emails. The opportunities to participate in extra curricular activities (regardless of your talent level) is another plus. Major thumbs up for the staff and students of PLMS!

0- my children were were victims of bullying and discrimination(Racism). Parents in this rural area live through their children by telling them to carry out bullying behavior and by threatening other children. I am sick over it. I am disabled and had to pull my children from the school dist and now I am trying to find them a school to goto without separating my whole family.
