I had to send my children to a private school because of the lack of preparedness for college. There is no busing after 5th grade. I should have done my homework and moved to another town with a better school district.

Overall good experience with a diverse student body. Your kids will get out of it what they put into it. If they study, are respectful, and have a healthy curiosity for learning, they will find themselves in a good place. If they tune out or run amok, then they will wind up a poor statistic. Both of my daughters took advantage of Honors/AP classes, played sports, graduated, and went to excellent colleges. I personally know many previous grads that have gone on to NYU, RPI, St. Johns, Temple, Binghamton and Howard. There's always more to the stats than the superficial numbers. You may pick a different school that's rated a 9/10, but your kids wind up absolutely miserable with self-esteem issues, or feel they have to compete with superficial material items, or isolated by student cliques, unconscious biases. The diversity at Peekskill at least helps to offset the teenage angst, as well as parental angst.

I currently have two children in the Peekskill school district who are both high honor roll students, both involved in sports and clubs . The teachers are wonderful. We are very happy with the school district.

There is a high administrative turnover. The students have little respect for the school and teachers. The athletic program is one of the worst in the state.

Peekskill high school is a diverse high school. The teachers are good and students should excel to take AP courses and challenge themselves. I have attended 3 high schools (A private catholic school in somers, PHS, and a public school in Florida). PHS was by far the best. The teachers provided quality and it was an overall wonderful experience. I wish I did not have to move for my senior year.

Peekskill HS has gone from a ghetto school, where few children did well to one that now includes AP courses and is educating all its students to go to good colleges. The Supt. of Schools, Judith Johnson, has made this happen over her 9 year tenure..
