My two kids go to Marquez School, and we love it, and so do they. They are in 2nd and 4th grade. We moved our fourth grader from a private school to Marquez, and he has been happier and has better grades than before. My kids have made a lot more friends. We love the school.

We absolutely love Marquez! Our children are so happy there and the education they're receiving is phenomenal. The kids have access to wonderful enrichments like karate, art, music, and gardening. The campus is clean and beautiful as well. My daughter has an IEP (individulaized education plan) for speech and the school and the speech therapist have been really helpful. There is a lot of parent involvement, the class sizes are small compared to other public schools and there is a real sense of community amongst the kids and parents. We are lucky to have such a magical public school!

My kids have been in school at Marquez since Kindergarten and they are now in 1st and 3rd Grade. We have had amazing teachers and we absolutely love the principal and staff. The school has a huge emphasis on adding enrichments which enhances their education. The school is very small and most of the children live in the neighborhood which is nice - there is a real sense of community. We are very happy here and my kids are thriving!

Marquez is such a special school. We went into the kindergarten selection process four years ago thinking that only private schools would offer the best education and the best social-emotional support for our daughter and we were completely wrong. This small neighborhood school has the most fantastic community full of extremely experienced and caring educators who know every child, committed and involved parents who lend their talents and resources to improving the school at every turn and wonderful resources to offer students who need extra social support or academic challenge as needed (our daughter has needed both throughout the years). We started our daughter in kindergarten at an expensive private local elementary school and pulled her out after the very first semester - the staff was inexperienced and not properly credentialed. Our daughter was bored and unchallenged. It was only when she transferred to Marquez that she truly fell in love with learning and with the experience of going to school.

Our kids had a great experience and a great start to threat academic years. One of my children ended up going to Stanford and one went to Michigan and they both went to the Palisades public schools all the way through high school.

Marquez is a wonderful engaging school that focuses more on the development of curiosity and creativity than most schools. The parent fundraising is well used on smaller class sizes and science music and art teachers. The teachers do more than focus on test scores - they engage the kids in fun and lively projects to get them thinking on their own. The community is very kind and welcoming. I have two kids at the school - one who just graduated from fifth grade and one in kindergarten. They have both made true friends and the parents are lovely as well. I am so grateful for this nurturing neighborhood school. Also it doesn’t hurt that the playground overlooks the ocean.

I have 2 kids there, 1st and 5th. We’ve had an amazing experience, pre Covid, during Covid, and returning after Covid. Our teachers have been wonderful. Bonus, an ocean view and great playground.

My child has had a very positive experience at Marquez. The teachers at Marquez have been wonderful! Unlike some other local schools, there is not a lot of turnover of teachers. The teachers are seasoned and committed to the Marquez community. Our new principal, Dr. Reeves is fantastic and is bringing so much enthusiasm and positive change to the school. We feel lucky to have such a great school in our community.

We have been a Marquez Charter family for the last 7 years. Our children have thrived during their time there. All of the teachers are experienced and care so much about your child learning to their potential. It's amazing that the school has a dedicated science teacher in Ms. Arevalo. She goes above and beyond her call of duty and not only teaches science, but runs so many other programs for the kids (student council, SLC, robotics, green team, etc.) Now that my oldest has moved on to middle school, she reflects back on her years at Marquez and how kind and caring the teachers are at the school compared to middle school. The school community is great. I highly recommend this school to all.

Marquez is an incredible education. Our four children have gone and are going through Marquez and they have loved their teachers, learning and have had a wonderful experience. The level of learning is high and the teachers are caring and wonderful. Dr Reeves is an incredible principal with over 20 years of experience in education. We have watched our children blossom at this excellent community school. We love Marquez and the friends we have made there are lifelong.

This school has been wonderful for both my children. They have thrived both socially and academically. I am also incredibly impressed with the robotics program and the dedicated science teacher.

Marquez is an exemplary school. We are a family of 3 generations attending the school. As a family that does not live in the neighborhood, I cannot express how much I disagree with the comment about not being accepted for being a kids of color. Both my children have made extraordinary friendships and from our experience, none of the staff have showed any type of preference towards a specific race or culture. We had one small incident of bullying (that was immediately addressed), but it had nothing to do with race. The teachers are so caring, the staff for the most part watch your kids and the parents don't treat us any different. My kids joined activities just like their friends in STAR, the music program and other outside activities.

We have had the best experience at Marquez. My daughter just started her 4th year here. I have been very impressed with the excellent teachers. I couldn't ask for a better school. The community is very welcoming too.

We love Marquez!! Such a wonderful community to raise both my kids in. Grateful to have had the opportunity to send my kids there. Truly a gem that strikes a balance between mainstream learning and the arts, drama and science.

We love Marquez and feel fortunate to send our kids there. Our daughter is sad to be leaving her Marquez family behind as she heads to middle school at Geffen Academy at UCLA. Our son can’t wait to get back to school, even remotely.The teachers are outstanding, as noted in my earlier comments. We strongly disagree with the unfair, incorrect comments about Ms. Bazan from another reviewer on this site. She runs a “tight ship” in her kindergarten class, but we appreciated that. Our kids thrived with the structure she provided. She also makes it fun and silly, having dance parties and lots of special treats for the kids. She addresses student behavioral issues, as she must, but in an entirely appropriate and effective way. As I mentioned above, her caring and commitment to our kids extended after they left her class. She was there for them while I was going through chemo when they were in first and third grades. She took them out to a movie and special lunch during winter break. She wouldn’t even allow me to pay for it. You won’t find that level of dedication at many schools. Our kids have thrived at Marquez. Marquez has brought out the best in them, academically and socially. When there have been challenges, as there always are, they have been addressed in a timely and responsive manner. We couldn’t ask for more in an elementary school. Especially in pivoting to distance learning, the teachers, administrators and staff have gone above and beyond to continue providing the best for our kids. THANK YOU, MARQUEZ!

We brought our kids here from a private school that was riddled with problems (academic, social, and more), not knowing what to expect. We have been blown away by the competence and expertise of the teachers, the responsible leadership, and the warmth of the community. My children are thriving and I could not be more grateful. The science curriculum is stellar, and both are excelling at math in ways that they did not have the support to do before. Same with language arts.

I don’t even know where to begin...I regret enrolling my child here. The atmosphere of indifference is palpable, it’s not a supportive environment at all. You’d think with all the resources at their disposal that they could hire good teachers. No amount of class size reduction will make a difference if their teachers are lousy. Parents are under the impression that their children are actually learning something because it’s an 8/10 and they have smaller class sizes. Those who donate more and kids up to their child’s teacher get preferential treatment and those who are not able to donate much get stuck with the bad teachers. Don’t get me started on the lack of diversity. If you’re a person of color, you’re definitely not welcome here. There is no community here unless you’re white.

My son is going into 3rd grade and we are nothing less than thrilled with Marquez and their teachers. We have an amazing community of educators, parents and students.
