Have had a few kids in different grades attend Cheney, including one who is going into 5th grade who used to complain daily of hating school and school work prior to being enrolled in Cheney. Now his grades have all been brought up and he doesn't complain about going! The staff is always friendly and they take the time to know EVERY student! The teachers and staff all know every student by name and description, it's really incredible and makes me that my children are safe here. They offer free breakfast and lunch, too, which is awesome bc there are so many low income families these days, ours included. The teachers are also careful not to accidentally make a student feel bad for being low-income. They are all inclusive of race, ethnicity, religion, and income. Everyone is welcome and every child is important.

I love the school as a parent, but my children love this school and the teachers apart of it.

I worked at Cheney a couple of years ago, I was not impressed in the least. Minimal homework, staff and teachers that I encountered were rude and stand offish. After I left I found out from others that the new principal doesn't like for teachers to interact, and runs the school like a business and I can not be on board with that. A school should be a community, a family, an asset to the neighborhood. The building and grounds are well taken care of, and they have a great PTA group. I was not happy with the lack of standards the school has for their students, low expectations sow low gains.

I was extremely apprehensive before enrolling my daughter at Cheney because they did not have the highest of FCAT scorce amongst their 3rd and 5th graders. But as the parent of a kindergartener, her teacher, the faculty and the overall upkeep of the school is superb. I have gone to at least 12 various school functions to date and it is only mid April. This school is HUGE on community involvement. My daughter receives a rigorous curriculum and I am consistently impressed with her progress. We have been to Math nights, science nights, reading nights, and book fairs just to name a few. I love this school and am actually sad to have to move after this academic year. In my opinion, Cheney was the best choice for my daughter and I!

This school is awful. To the parent that rated them highly because of the principal - that principal was pulled out at the last minute prior to this new school year and replaced. The new principal is worse. She doesn't care if your child has a disability - even going so far as to tell me that it wasn't a big deal and telling me all of the people who were successful despite not knowing until they were adults. The same principal made my daughter sign a behavior contract for 'instigating a fight' when she took the one friend over to the other to try to find out what was wrong and why the other girl wanted to fight. I told her she was interpreting wrong but my input doesn't matter. I think it's really sad when her first take on a situation is to assume the worst in a child.

This school is horrible. I have had my son in the school for the past 3yrs. With in that time he has had recess taken away because the teacher did not want to go outside. The school tried to tell me my son had a learning disability and they tried to force me to put my kid in special class he didn't need. I proved the school wrong by holding my son back a year and all his grades were at level. Then my kid got a 2 day suspension because another kid accessed a porn site from my kids computer. The school computers should have all the parental soft ware that will block all web sites except the school web sites. I am going to transfer my kid out of the school this year.

We moved here from another state. Even though I knew the state overall had lower standards than where we came from, I was really shocked at the lack of concern for the students. My daughter's 3rd grade class was denied recess for over a month because they were too chatty. Any parent or teacher worth their salt should recognize that denying them an outlet for that is not going to help them prevent it. Additionally, this year my daughter has become withdrawn and depressed and says her teacher this year yells all the time. I'm going in for a conference and if it doesn't get better she will not be there next year. Also, I signed up to be a volunteer and have made it known that I'm willing and interested to take part and have not once in the two years been asked to help with anything.
