Avalon Elementary does NOT honor IEP accommodations. Students with disabilities are given the same amount of work as the general education classrooms, and they are mistreated. This school creates such anxiety in students as in previous reviews for the school. if you have a concern about an IEP, and you bring it to their attention, the school staff retaliates against you. Principal is never available and does not respond to your emails or concerns. If you are a PTO mom and you are able to donate financially, your children are favored. Lots of favoritism and bullying.

If you have a child that have an IEIP, I highly recommend to look somewhere else. I just withdrawal both of my kids , my son was for 6 months and he got anxiety to the point that he was not able to focus and he couldn't sleep any more , I spoke with the principal many time about my concerns and she denied me the access to.my son classroom to see why he was so depressed finally I was able to visited in Christmas to fimd out that my son was in a classroom with kids with several autism. My daughter got Bruce's all the time and again the school denied violence I saw her classmate hitting to the assistant on the face outside the school. My daughter never hava bruces before and not after I removed them. I wish I could find out this early, my two kids are traumatized about avalon. We found a great school where they are together with all.kids without exclusions, avalon never included the kids with ieip on the school events , they keep the In the back Classroom all together regardless of they have minor conditionThe principal is a prophesional lier on you on face with an smiling. Never again!

I have to say it was a great school around 6 years ago when my oldest went to it. So much have changed. The school is no match to Stone Lakes Elementary. It’s a pity we moved homes and were rezoned to Avalon elementary from Stone lakes. Was shocked to see the difference. Avalon elementary lacks big time on social media and communication in general! The teachers are not involved neither is the principal. You are never in the loop and always have to call the school to find out information. They are slack and have a don’t care attitude compared to neighboring Stone lakes which is a breath of fresh air to deal with. There are no actual interaction like the principal from Stone lakes. It’s actually sad! Everytime I went to the front office, it was filthy , noisey and very unorganized. You don’t even want to see the sick room it’s disgusting and tk think my child goes there to be attended to in the event of needing a nurse. Scary!! This school has some renovations in the office which Is hideous and so sloppy looking. Leave alone this school needs a thorough pressure wash! The playgrounds tops are disgusting and molded and literally have trash on it. The office foyer has cobwebs and overall it looks like a dump. The quality of education has also not been the same. Teachers focus too much on themselves by complaining when it not suitable to them. Too much favoritism happens between teacher /parent:kid . This school is run by PTO bullies.

There are a few things about Avalon elementary that make it excel. There is such a great community feel. They have so many great rites of passage and traditions. Their 5th grade class trip is like nothing I have ever seen at any elementary school and I have lived in several states. It is such a great experience for the kids. The gifted program is not one that pulls out kids for a few hours a week, they are in class together and work at a quicker pace allowing for other learning opportunities. I can't believe this school is listed here as an 8. It is much higher in my book.

So far it's been great, a few bumps and room for improvement, but it's what you expect for a canned education trying to reach hundreds of different types of learners through a few learning methods.

Been very patient and have tried to work with this school. It has so many good reviews, was under the impression that is was top notch and that we were fortunate to live in this school district. However I am sadly unimpressed and highly disappointed. If you child has any special needs from asthma, to behavioral issues,to ADHD then this might not be the best school for your child. If you work for a living, you will be called to come pick up your child because something has happened at the school and they cannot handle it. Be prepared to be bombarded with fundraisers, fun runs and the like as well as flyers for costly after school programs for karate, football, etc. Prepare to have your problems ignored because they are above such reprimands with it being part of an affluent neighborhood they are above such scrutiny. The hype for this school is high, but the resources and quality of care is much lower than expected and the student population is very high. If you can afford private school, I highly recommend it as an alternative. Many concerned parents (we talk to each other) requested their children switch teachers at the beginning of the year. A select few simply pulled their kids out. Not sure if this has anything to do with a change in principles, or not. If your child is very average with no issues you can take a gamble on this school, otherwise transfer somewhere else or enroll in private school.

Mr.Aldridge has been an amazing principal. What a welcome change. Student friendly, age appropriate motovation is now present in this school. Very appreciative of the change. Happy mom!

Best school in Florida! Up to date with learning abilities. They have the best system in place giving the children the best education.

Great community. The majority of the teachers are excellent. Administration only cares about test scores. Sanders is only about the money and I would agree, sees kids as dollar signs. Teachers are beat down by the administration. School would be better regardless of test scores due to involved parents. The support administration is weak. Vega doesn't have backbone. Not a leader but a puppet to the principal. Have to give it a one because a school is only as good as their leadership. The school was fantastic-but there is a palpable change and it is not for the better. Choose a neighboring school instead-Timber Lakes or Stone Lakes. Happier kids.

Most all of the teachers at this school are great. I wish I could rate the school solely on the teachers. Unfortunately that positive is overshadowed by the administration, specifically the school principal, Pam Sanders. She is highly focused on test scores and that is it. High performance on tests dominate the atmosphere and excludes anything else. There appears little, if any, time for fun and developing a love of learning. Furthermore, I feel the principal sees my child as a dollar sign. I feel this school would be better if there was leadership that respected each child for all their abilities, rather than what test score they bring to the school. They actually posted student names on their marquee that had perfect state tests results. To me school is about more than a test score and the over emphasis unappealing. I had a neighbor move to get away from the testing emphasis that she felt was particularly high at this school. It is unfortunate because this is a great neighborhood with great kids. I think more parents would be involved if there were a more approachable and empathetic leadership. I hope any future administration will run things differently.

Avalon is a great school. The teachers care about their students and the staff is friendly and approachable. Although many parents commented on the gifted program, I also believe the focus and support for struggling students or those with an IEP is also excellent. I had two kids go through Avlaon, one needed additional support in reading and math and the other didn't. The one who needed additional support received free tutoring after school and additional reading support during school. Both my kids were challenged and their education excelled. The one who struggled with school was once a C/D student. He is now an A/B student.

PTO control this school with the principal being the ringleader. If you are not part of the click, your child will be left behind. They are focus on the children being robots and cranking out perfect grades and making the appearance of a good school. look elsewhere for a good school

My child is gifted student. And Avalon Elementary gift class is all day learning with only gifted students, so the curriculum and learning might be different from the Stone Lake Elementary (gifted class offered but not all day setting). I really love Avalon Elementary school.

My kids and I love this school!! This school have good teachers and good leaders (Mrs. Sanders and Mr. Vega) that really care on education. I'm happy they are learning and at the same time enjoying everyday here.

The self contained gifted classes provide such unique opportunities for kids who are gifted (or high achievers). If they were left in the regular classrooms, they might not get the attention they need and might just be bored. I wish other schools will follow Avalon's model.

Here we go again, all they focused on this whole year is the big Teacher Trip to Peru. Not focused on learning at all, just look at facebook...the proof is there. It is amazing to me the school lobbies for a grant/donation for a teacher trip instead of for the students. What about all the kids who can't afford the "required ipad."

I like Avalon Elementary School because it's current technology- wise. They have great teachers that have the experience and attitude to have kids happy to learn.
