One of the most memorable days of my life was taking my four year old daughter to Grymes Memorial School for her interview. As we were walking up to the front door, I just knew, this was the school for Chloe. She was holding my hand, and stopped to bend over and pick a flower. I left her with Ms. Berry, and was told to come back in an hour. I was a wreck. Chloe was accepted, and sending her to Grymes was one the best decisions that I have ever made. Grymes represents a family of students, teachers and parents that want only the best for their children.

My daughter loved attending Grymes. The staff promotes learning in a stress-free environment. My daughter began Grymes as a Jr K student and graduated as a GMS Lifer in June 2014. GMS students are involved in community services, sports activities, and have opportunities to take educational trips to other countries. Teachers and staff have a wealth of knowledge that they pass on to students. I wholeheartedly recommend Grymes to any parent who want a GREAT school for their child.

Our family has a combined fifteen years of experience with Grymes Memorial School. Grymes served our children well in preschool through second grade, but failed after that point. The curriculum and instruction become progressively weaker as kids progress to the upper grades. Spanish language instruction is touted, but the program is limited and children often leave Grymes without any conversational knowledge of Spanish after ten years of exposure. Science instruction is uninspired, the math curriculum caters to the slowest students, and the music program is unimaginative. We cannot understand why so many reviewers cite the supposed small class size, low student-teacher ratio at the school. Grymes unstated policy is to accept as many qualified students as possible so as to generate more revenue. This means some classes have as few as 8 kids while others swell to 24 students. It's the luck of the draw which size class your child experiences. Lastly, questionable hiring practices and a complete inability of the administration to enforce its own disciplinary rules among the student body left our family no choice but to withdraw our children from Grymes.

I have been at this school my entire life. I started in Junior Kindergarten, and now I am currently in 7th grade. Next year is my last year. You should know that the students and faculty have made me a great Student Athlete. This year I was the Goalie for the Boy's Lacrosse Team, and did an outstanding job. I like how my friends have cheered me up, and the newly added building, The Gardner Hall. Grymes Memorial School is probably one of the best schools you can choose in Central Virginia.

Grymes Memorial School is an excellent school, and a great educational asset to our area!! From the Head Of School to the dedicated and involved parents, teachers and staff... Grymes is a like a home away from home, filled with love, peace and positive energy!! This is definitely the type of nurturing environment and community you would like your kids to learn and grow up in!!

Nice small, school that offers a decent education in a very home-like, safe environment. The quality of teachers is uneven. Some are truly excellent others just mediocre. It seems like they haven't been able to keep some of the great teachers for a long tirme. Despite tremendous parental support and involvement I haven't been impressed with the final "product" Most of these students would have done equally well in public schools. I think Grymes could do a better job in the use of web technology and more individualized teaching methods. Children carry heavy volume of books on the daily basis. Why aren't they using Web more or have books on-line? Some staff vehicles are covered with political stickers. Maybe it would be prudent to keep their political views private? Overall, it is a nice, little school that hasn't lived up to its full potential.

My daughter is in K at Grymes. She attended JK last year. An amazing school where education truly comes first. The teachers and staff are first class and very caring. After a few days my daughter felt right at home. I love dropping her at school every morning and seeing the huge smile on her face. The convenience of picking her up 5 minutes from where I work is a huge plust. My husband likes the quaintness of the school and how it reminds him of the school he attended as a child. We highly recommend Grymes to families who are looking for the best education for their child in a "family" environment.

I'll be the first to say I am a picky parent. We have tried out many of our local schools private and public and have never been as happy as we are with Grymes. The staff is enthusiastic, and cheerful. I've never seen people so happy in a work environment! : ) Grymes is very challenging academically. This took a while for my daughter to adjust to. The staff was so helpful and patient, tutoring her and following up with me at home. The children are allowed a great amount of creative freedom. They have many breaks throughout the day, which is good for children who like to be active. They also offer art a few times a week as well as Spanish for all grades. I would highly recommend visiting the school for a day. My only regret is not starting my daughter at Grymes earlier.
