This is the worst school my kids have ever attended. They have attended 3 schools in Odessa and Blanton is by far the worst. My kids first day one of the teachers said, “I heard Ireland was a great school and he hope they like it here.” I knew then the school wasn’t about nothing. Only reasoning they are at Blanton is because we moved. Communication with you and your child is something they lack.

Overall experience with this school is that the staff and faculty were aggressively working against trying to assist our child with a disability. When our child was enrolled, the principal continued to express her unprofessional, unlicensed, and unsolicited "medical" opinion that our son's problem was not disabled and that his resulting issues were the result of his us being bad parents. Conversely, she suggested that our son need to be on a certain medication (remember, she isn't a medical professional) to help him, instead of take responsibility for her failures as a principle.

Principle Voss has refused to work with and interferes with doctors trying to diagnose a young student being evaluated with special needs. Teachers display partiality and favoritism among students, refusing to recognize excellent academic achievements in a student with disability that they state have not achieved good citizenship, when other students displaying behavioral problems noticeable to other parents are awarded for academic excellence. Blanton is not awarding academic success where it is displayed. "A" and "A/B" honor role is about grades... not about difficulties with communication and expression.

Blanton is not a good school. Teachers constantly make rude comments within earshot of parents about their kids. Faculty and staff is unhelpful, and does not care if they "forget" to gather missed work when our child had a serious illness keeping him home for a week. My child was nearly set back because of the office staff not following up and getting needed homework for me to pick up after school. Also, teachers are constantly not sending (or sending too late or almost too late) communications from the administration, causing us to miss timely information important for us to know about our child.

Blanton is one of the best elementary schools in Odessa. The staff is wonderful...from the office to the classroom. The principal is wonderful as well. This year was my son's first year in public school (in 4th grade) and his teacher is absolutely amazing and he could not be happier. Nothing but praise for this campus!

New for this year, Principle Voss has a terrific track record from her years as Vice Principle at Milam Elementary. She brings to Blanton a level of accessibility and involvement that seems far beyond the norm. She can, for example, be seen outside each morning helping kids get out of their parents' cars and into the building. She makes rounds through the Kindergarten classes to read stories to the children. She reads and responds to emails. She holds students and teachers alike accountable for being on-time.
