This school has low control of students with behavior and the admin don't want to be bothered with detention. The teachers are not credentialed, many of them are in the process of getting their credentials. Eventhough it is categorized as low income school, some of the parents feel entitled to get the best teachers for their kids. The students have tendency to destroy classroom supplies and the parents refuse to donate. This school has high turnover teachers and the person who works hard to make the learning process and hiring the teacher is not the Principal.

This school is the worst thing to happen to earth. The lunch is disgusting and has even made a couple children sick. There is a lot of sexism, for example a week before I wrote this review a couple of female students got into fights and they have been given no punishments. I’ve also seen some male students getting suspended for play fighting. This school also allows profanity from students and they tolerate students hitting each other in the hallways. One classroom did not have an AC for almost a year and the complaints that the students were making to teacher weren’t helping. Teachers are always leaving the school and my class had a sub for almost the whole year. In conclusion if you send your student to this school be ready for all the drama and problems.

This school is amazing! The teachers know what they're doing and are amazing! There is no bullying here and is always clean and safe! Come and join the AIMS Family community! ;)))

I would give this school a negative rating if I could. This school is the definition of miserable. The students here have no respect for anything at all. Constant bullying and drama from every single student. In the past year, at least 5 teachers have left the school. This school offers bad school lunch that looks like it came out of a homeless mans unwashed belly button. This school also takes so long to listen to requests. One class had no AC for almost half the year, and after almost a whole year, only recently got a new pencil sharpener. This school’s curriculum is also very bad. As SBAC prep, they make you do a workbook with no additional help. This school does not deserve the awards they get. Don’t come here if you want good education.

In my experience so far in this school, it has been the worst. Constant bullying and lack of experienced teachers. The students get detention for smallest things. Dress code is very outdated. The school lunch is so bad. Once, I cut open a corn dog with a knife and the meat was dark green-blue and the bread around it was white. Admin does not put effort into making the school a better place. The curriculum is out of order. On top of that, there is constant drama and fights and people talking bad behind peoples back. The admin isn’t doing anything to stop that either. So, if you are thinking to put your child in this school, don’t do it. You will be thankful.

A former student who has graduated from this school here. So generally, this school is a mess. You can get detentions for literally anything. Then there is the time that when I was in the 5th grade, we had a substitute RECORD US in the middle of class and post it on Facebook to rant about how obnoxious and annoying we were. We literally had to plan with our fellow students in our class to try and find out what she was doing, and we got the two tallest students to talk to her and try to peer over her and see her phone screen, only to see her recording us and posting it on Facebook. We were livid and when we told our teacher she went to complain to the school to no avail. The school didn't even punish her, leading to parents taking matters into their own hands to force the school's hand to fire said subsitute. Also, lines was a common punishment. If a small number of people would talk when walking in a line to P.E. or class, you were forced back to the school to walk all the way back OR you had lost the period and had to spend it writing at least 400 lines. I remember in the 7th grade some of us were talking when we were walking back to our classroom, only to be forced to stand outside and make lines for about 20-30 minutes. Generally, I would say the teachers I had were good and the classes were enjoyable, but they either left or were fired by the time I left the school. Teachers also yell at students for the smallest things. I remember when I was heading back to class in the 6th grade, there was a teacher yelling at his students so loudly that I could hear it from the other side of the building. I had gone to the floor above I could still faintly hear the teacher yelling at the students. That teacher was never fired, and I remember that same teacher had taken my watch that I had gotten permission from my teacher to wear because of the fact that we had no working clock in our room. The school for some reason had banned watches, and he took it away for the rest of the year. When I tried to tell him that my teacher gave me permission, he said he didn't care. I also never saw that watch again, as the school kept it and never gave it back even after at the end of the year when I asked admin for the watch. They told me that they put the names of the persons item who's was confiscated on the bag the item was put in, and the school said they didn't have it, meaning the teacher stole it. I could go on and on, but generally this school is a walking disaster.

I was in this school for 3 years. After first semester of second grade, our teacher left. The rest of the school year we just had substitutes. During PE class, we actually wrote more lines then exercised. When we would talk too loud in the hallways before we left to the playground for PE, we would always end up writing lines. This school uses detention as a form punishment. Even one minor infraction will cost you a hour after school. When you get two detentions a day you would get Saturday school. During Lunch time, if the students talked too loud we would have silent lunch. If we were caught talking during silent lunch we would get detention. Punishment here does not work.

Bad. Really unhappy I enrolled my child at this school. You will be doing your children a great disservice if you send them here. 1 semester and we were thrilled to leave. Cant say enough bad things about this school and particularly the dean/administration. I never thought I'd see such blatant disregard for the interest of students in school staff.

Terrible. This school, particularly its non-teaching staff seem trained in not helping students/families. Rather, misleading, misdirecting, or sending them in adminitrative circles seems to be their policy.

The school rules are very rigid and do not allow for individual plans to support children of different needs. They have rules about behavior however the teachers professionalism has been questionable in terms of the way they speak to the children. Their homework policies are antiquated and do not allow for students to pursue other interests which would make them well-rounded individuals.

The school is a jewel in Oakland. The teachers and leadership really work hard for our children. Students get a private school education at a public school price.

I enjoy working here. I enjoy what the school strives to do and I am proud of the achievements we have made. I've taught at several schools, and this by far is the best one I've taught at.

My grandson began reading at 2 years of age, he's now 8 and very advanced. Thankfully AIMS keeps him engaged and challenged.

As a substitute teacher, this school is a pleasure to work at. The students are respectful and studious, with tons less behavior problems than many other schools, including richy private schools. One thing I observe here is a simple, clear behavior protocol that help kids make choices to succeed rather than act out and be bratty. This school does not confuse kids with permissiveness or coddling which I see so often elsewhere. Afterall, discipline is love and anything else is probably laziness. These kids know what's up and they self-correct in an amazing way. This creates a vibrant learning and teaching environment with room for a lot of joy in learning. Great job, staff, for helping students prepare for the real world and brilliant futures. (-:

American Indian has been such a great asset to my sons growth and development. His grades have improved based on their standards and commitment to his growth. My son has a lot further to go, and I am confident that the school will help him get there and prepare him for college. Thank you, 6th Grade Parent

Do not send your child to this school please! They are militant and use intimidation, bullying and embarrassment as their form of discipline. My child's teacher belittled him daily. Would not return calls and address me directly as the adult. He would smile and say my child was doing a great job but pick on the child and even told him that he likes to embarrass parents if they attempt to complain. I spoke with the principal who verified this is their standard. My child was treated worse once I attempted to rectify the situation. These kids receive no recess breaks and only receive a minimal lunch break with no meals offered by the institution but no microwave to warm food that is sent. The staff is rude and condescending but enforce higher standards than the adults there as the examples
