Travilah Elementary school is a very good and educating school. I have learned many things that will show importance as I move forward trough middle school, high school, and more. Travilah have also done a great job with their school food. Another thing Travilah has done well is their kind staff. The staff have helped me and made me feel like I belong in the school. Overall Travilah Elementary has been a great school. It is definitely five star worthy.

Great teachers but there are 2 AT&T cell towers 150 feet away from the school. Have to change school this fall.

The homework is given just to check boxes. The problem with the school is: the teachers and the Principal are only worried about the ratings. They are VERY insensitive towards children's needs. As few people already pointed out, the schools ratings are better because majority of students come from a background where the parents take utmost interest in their child's education. The Principal is just a dummy. The teachers, at least whoever we have seen are pretty inexperienced, especially in nurturing and encouraging the kids. We found it was pointless to speak with the teacher in Parent-Teacher meetings. The teacher was also useless when we approached her to complain about bullying. Strong Suggestion to school management: it's not just all about ratings and numbers. Please start taking genuine 'interest' in student's needs. The children should be 'happy' to go to school. Overall development is what is required.

The parent that posted on 3/10/11 is spot on! The school only looks terrific on paper because of the location and has students from cultures that put high emphasis on education and perform well. The principal is basically sitting in a sweet spot knowing she's judged by numbers and does everything she can to push out kids that don't perform at the top! Since kids perform well it's very hard to push out the bad teachers and the principal doesn't seem very caring about students needing extra assistance. I noticed it was a red flag during back to school night when the principal spoke for an hour reading off test scores. We transferred to Fallsmead and it's absolutely no comparison which should be an embarrassment to Travilah considering they're in the same Wootton cluster. Everyone works together communication is top notch at Fallsmead. I felt like I was pulling teeth to get any information of what was going on in the classroom at Travilah. Fallsmead sends out weekly class updates which majority of schools do but not the case with everyone at Travilah, but don't worry parents are notified at the end of the year if their child didn't test up to their standards.

If you want a good school and a friendly environment, Travilah ES is the place. Staffs are friendly and the parents are very supportive. It's all about surrounding your kids with interesting and diverse people.

The teacher is not friendly. My first impression is that she will retire next year and is looking forward to her retire life (her grand kids, her travel). I am worried the kids will be ignored.

I was a old student at travilah and I loved it so much currently I'm at robert frost which is as good as travilah. The priniple cares for the students. Playground rules I hear so far are overwhelming but this just proves how much they care for our saftey and health. The teachers are very kind and they help you strive to work your hardest. The school holds many extracurricular activities that help and support the kids when they need help. Overall travilah is a great very educational place and a healthy environment

The is GOOD over all. The students are very good. Teacher are vary from excelent to so-so. The school is well organized. The main issue with the school is leadership. The principal seems to be good administrator who does NOT understand kids, parents and there needs. The principal fails to create fare and comfortable learning enviroment for all students. Few students are treated too well (kids of wealthy parents donating to school a lot) while rest of the kids the principal does not care about. But principal DOES care about the school performance down to fraction of a percent. And she pushes the scores up by KEEPING best students in school rather than recommending them for Gifted-and-Talented program offered by the county (kids in the GT program go to different school and home school looses performance a bit when they leave). At the meetings with parents the principal talks about school building improvement, school scores improvement and such. She DOES NOT talk about kids, and I think this is because she DOES NOT REALLY care about them. I know first hand that it can and is different in some other schools in the area!

I have been very pleased with the school, the teachers, administrators, and curriculum. The PTA is very active and supportive, providing tons of extra activities, enrichment programs and supplying the school with whatever additional supplies or perks it could need. The administrators and teachers have been very professional and responsible whenever my kids had an issue, addressing the problem discreetly and with kindness. More than half the kids test as Gifted and Talented, so if your kid is smart, s/he will be challenged. I think they do a great job of trying to give individual treatment to each kid's learning abilities. A very green school with teachers who care and are responsive to parents. Incredibly diverse in population although less so in socio-economic level, many kids speak other languages and the school is very thoughtful about cultural differences. County administration lacks nimbleness and is adverse to change, but that's true for all the ES in the County. Overall, would highly recommend the school to any friend.

This school is fantastic. Great teachers, extracurricular activities, many special programs for special students, and a great bus transportation system. Just fantastic!!!! I compared several private schools before sending my children to this one. This one is the best!
