From my experience as a student, Unfortunately, G. James Gholson Middle School falls short in several critical areas that impact the quality of education and the well-being of its students. One of the most significant issues here is the recurring problem of fights and a lack of effective measures to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment. This disrupts the school atmosphere and adds unnecessary stress for students who want to focus on their studies. The teachers here also struggle to connect with their students on a meaningful level. Many students feel that they don’t receive the kind of understanding and support they need to succeed, and it often seems as if the teachers lack the patience or willingness to truly help students overcome academic challenges. This disconnection affects students' motivation and makes learning less enjoyable, impacting their ability to thrive academically. In terms of administration, the principal and counselors seem unapproachable and unhelpful when students need assistance. This lack of support creates a sense of frustration among students, especially when they feel there’s no one to turn to with problems they encounter in school. Furthermore, issues with race equality treatment raise concerns, as every student deserves a fair and respectful environment where they feel valued.Overall, I do not suggest this school for anyone, as it does not provide the supportive and inclusive environment that students need to succeed.

This is unacceptable. My child goes to this school and the amount of danger that has happened in the school and parents were never notified. The bullying is awful they dont do anything to help the children. Why? It seems like they protect the bully instead of the bullied. Please, never send your child here.

Parent/Legal Guardian - I had a visit to the school with my child several months ago and was truly disappointed. The children have no respect for the staff or anyone else for that matter. I was in one of the classes and the young boys in the class talked about their private parts in front of me and used a lot of profanity. There was a female subistitute teacher in the class who had to repeatedly ask them to be respectful and focus to which they paid no attention. There was a whole lot I saw that day it was really sad and disturbing. There was a lot of trash on the gym floor and the teacher spent a lot of his time cleaning up after the kids. Broken blinds and furniture in the classrooms. The staff was really kind and I could see that there are some really great teachers, but they were doing more babysitting than they were teaching. The kids were very disruptive in the classrooms, hallways and cafeteria. I recently had an issue with my child and some other students that was truly disrespectful. I am totally disappointed with the end result because each of the students involved held no accountability. There are so many fights at this school and quite a bit of bullying. I'm not sure what has happened here, but something needs to be done soon. This school can be a great school, but much help and work is needed. The staff cannot do the work alone and it will take the parents, community, the school board and our Superintendent to help. My child has one more year and I really would like to move them to another school. Disappointed in how this school has turned out.

I had to go to class with my child 2013-2014 school year when he was in the 8th grade and I saw it was really hard for the teachers to teach because of the childrens behavior. In two of his classes he had substitute teachers where in one class he didn't have any work for them because who ever was in charge dropped the ball. The other sub couldn't control them at all and they were running around, cursing, one boy pulled a few of his classmates pants down, and the sub didn't attempt any instruction, she was just there. Those boys did all this in front of me and didn't care once that there was a parent present. My son preferred to finish out his school year in SAC saying its more quiet and he can get his work done. Now I know my son reacts to his environment and needs to practice self control but it really was about 6 bad apples disrupting the learning process. Some of the administration jumps the gun and power hungry. Mrs. Compton has made to many mistakes for my taste. Hopefully they can make a change!!!

This school has been a TURN AROUND school and I would know coming from a 7th grader going on to 8th this year. Yes theirs some incidents like in any other school but this is a good school to me. I've made honor roll all 4 quarters with a 3.7. And the teachers really do care about us.

With the exception of a few honors 'houses,' the students run the school. The teachers do their best but get little support from the administration or parents. The extended school day is a waste because the kids are bouncing off the walls and most class time is wasted by disruptive behavior. Those few teachers who attempt to put their foot down have left or been forced out by the administration.

I must say this is the worst school EVER. My daughter is an honor roll student and she has YET to have an honor roll assembly i asked the staff in the office when will they have one and all they can do is tell me "I dont know".. so sad it seems to me like they dont wanna acknowledge the kids who are doing well. But this will be my daughters first and last year there. The kids also curse the teachers out and the kids. #sadschool

    G. James Gholson Middle is the absolute worst school you could send your child to for anything. The only reason that my child is there currently is to finish the 8th grade and due to residency its required that she attends. Otherwise if you can don't send your child. Pay for somewhere else if you can. Sorry I couldn't give it NO STARS

It's sad that the teachers of yesterday aren't the teacher of today. You can tell which teachers really teach becaue it show's on the student's report card and the student wants to learn more.

I am a former student of G. James Gholson Middle School. I am now in the 11th grade enrolled in a public school in new Jersey. But as a student at Gholson, my 7th grade year was terrible. I was being bullied because of my ethnicity, my name, my size, and because I didn't always have the latest in fashion. But my 8th grade year was much much much better. Ever since Ms. Robinson, Ms. Compton, & Mr. Goins came that school changed for the better. Disciplinary wise, and academics too. I didn't want to leave. I felt safe, and was rewarded for my good doing. Hopefully out stays that way. I plan to come visit the administration soon.

A failing school.Horrible school. Something must be done because the kids are going to suffer. School is for education it is not a place for a battle.

G James Gholson Middle School, named after an educational giant has the opportunity to be a world class school. Too many individuals who are willing to go out into the community and speak negative about the school are among those who send young people into the building each day who come here to weaken the level of excellence so many have fought for. To do better, must be more than a verbal statement. There must be action behind those words. How does a building improve if the people who walk inside are joking and playing all day? Schools are a place of business. We are here to prepare young people to be prepared and self sufficient to go out into the world and make things happen. This is a middle school. There are expectations of middle school students that cannot be compromised. High School and Life in general does not compromise when it comes to excellence. When young people leave school unprepared they jeopardize their future and the future of others. It is unfortunate that children are bullied. However, there are adults who bully others everyday. We cannot talk about leadership. Children must be led by example to have some sense of what great leadership looks like.

This school is a disaster. My daughter is being bullied both online and offline. The ones involved have yet to be suspended or have faced an disciplinary action other than a talking too. I have been to the school multiple times and filled out reports with proof of the bullying that has taken place. Today I learned that it became physical and the one who put their hands on my child - nothing was done. NOTHING. Let's not talk about the science class that has not had a teacher since November. One of the teachers forgot and or didn't know who my child was and was in the class. This school is failing the students. The kids are out of control and reckless. They do whatever they want. Each time I have been to the school there has been a fight. I shadowed my child for a day, the language that is used, the way the kids run the halls and behave is an otricity. Some of the teachers try but its not enough. I will do everything in my power to shine the light on what goes on behind closed doors. The principal is MIA. Horrible school. Something must be done because the kids are going to suffer. School is for education it is not a place for a battle.
