Whittier is a wonderful place for kids and parents of all backgrounds! Parents and teachers work together to help guide their children through the awkward social years typical of this age group. I think it's great that they take advantage of the advanced classes offered, the connection with OU, Moore Norman Technology Center, and other local community resources like School Bell, etc. I appreciate this great school, how hard the teachers are working for our kids, and that you can communicate with the administration when you have a concern giving them a chance to intervene. My son had a great experience there, he was part of the band program, loved many of his teachers, and had good friends that lasted all through his high school years. He was well prepared for high school and then excelled at OU. My only criticism was that kids would misbehave on the bus sometimes, not a new problem!

I've gone to this school for about two years now and I love the school, it's very easy to make friends at this school, the teacher really care about their students and education, they don't give out a lot of homework so most classes are easy, 95% of the people at this school are supportive, the teacher/administrators are really nice at this school, the school is pretty big and you might get lost on the first day of school but it's pretty easy to learn your way around the school, and overall most of the classes here are easy.

Bullying is a major problem at this school. Agree that the student atmosphere is cruel and administration does minimal to get involved. It seems priorities are focused on pleasing parents instead of constructively addressing cruel behavior and giving consequences. Because of this, many students suffer. Late work is constantly accepted without penalty. Expected standards are low for students, both academically and morally. It seems administration is more concerned about the “appearance” of being a great school, instead of actively seeking ways to improve for the students’ benefit. There are certain teachers/coaches that are amazing, and have a gift of uplifting kids, and this is the reason for an extra star. The office staff is also very kind, greets everyone with smiles. Many students have left, as parents have become frustrated with low standards. There is hope for this school, but administration must learn to do what is best for the students without worrying about what certain influential parents think.

I would rate it a 9 because of how great the teachers and peers are. They give us the things we need and help us have a better education. The principals and counselors are very nice and they’re always there to help me. I’m very thankful for Whittier Middle School and helping me get through all of my years at middle school.

No response by school administration to communicate about accountability. No wonder school is rated a C
