We live close to the school, it's in our district. It is NOT balanced. We have 2 kids in this school and are highly disappointed in their discipline program. The kids have more than 1 teacher, very different than what we are used to. When the students have issues between themselves, it doesn't translate. My child was put as a partner with a kid who has repeatedly bullied my child and though the teachers are nice - they are "done" with these issues. It's not the teachers job to "parent" the kids, but it's the parents sending their kids to school that need to parent their kids. The teachers are constantly disrupted, having to deal with piddly little social issues that the kids have to escalate to shouting matches and curse words. The parents send their sick kids to school... without a care! My other child has been "exposed 3 times" over the course of 4 weeks ... come on! Each time, I get the call. The quality of the school reflects in the students they have and as Mr. Brown is excellent dealing with and understanding children, they cannot control the "class" of student that attends their school. This will be our last year at Welch, as I'll be enrolling our children in a Charter or Private school next year. Bullying is happening in the higher grades, kids with poor upbringing are dragging this school down.

Very Interesting to see the reviews. Our child went to Welch from K-5. She did very well and was given the time she needed to progress and excel. She participated in almost every school function and had a wonderful time at Welch. From her perspective, she had really good teachers. From our perspective they were average to above average, depending on the grade. We never had any issue with the amount of homework or the instructions on the homework as it was very basic and did not require lots of input from the parent. Our average night of homework was around an hour starting in 3rd grade. We were engaged with the school and teachers at Welch and that helped the process. I have nothing but good experiences with Welch and nothing but good things to say.

Welch Elementary has taken a 180 in leadership over last 4 years.

Poor. It is too political and needs to focus more on the children and their education. Furthermore, teachers are disappointing and seemd to be poorly educated themselves.

Great School ! Don’t believe the negative you might hear. Administration is new (4 years at school or less) and ha e made huge changes that are obvious! Those changes have all been for the good! Family oriented and student need driven!

Did not have a good experience at this school at all. They are unorganized, not helpful and cant meet your childs basic needs. We pulled our kids sold our home and moved out of this school district.

We started at Welch 7 years ago in PreK and still have one other child attending Welch for another 3 years. This school has had its ups and downs over our journey but in the last 3 years the improvement has been nothing but spectacular. Not every school is perfect but it's what you make out of it. Be involved, voice your concerns, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Administration is amazing in the sense that their door is always open! If your not sure of the school they offer tours. You won't be disappointed.

I truly believe that MANY parents will post PERSONAL opinions to rate a school based on their own EXPERIENCE. Over a period of 6 yrs, since the doors opened, I have personally witnessed a variety of parents, (who seemed to always have difficulties with their children), express negative feedback. I believe that they are quick to have a strong opinion leaving the responsibility of their child's complete academic, social & behavioral life up to the teachers and the school they attend. I feel that those parents will truly never be "happy" anywhere they go. After having two children go through this school, and having experienced public school system in some other state w/my other children, Welch is by far a good school. The teachers give 100%. If you are a parent who likes to have your child "pacified" when they need to be reprimanded, then you are probably better off teaching them at home. The teachers here instruct and discipline. It would be helpful to those teachers if parents of the disciplinary children would actually help their child & then the teachers could give far more outstanding instruction & attention. It's a great school people. Don't leave the responsibility of your child to others

My children had a very smooth transition to this school from another school district. The teachers are very attentive, approachable and friendly. They have a good special education program with opportunities to take part in a variety of activities, such as horseback riding, bowling, and special olympics. I definitely would recommend it!

Avoid if at all possible. Example of "organized" school event. The experience yesterday was an indicative example of poor management and direction. This event was an unorganized mess which only frustrated people. You don't make several hundred people stand in line for 45 minutes while an entire auditorium sits empty. You don't state "Come get your kids!" Then immediately say "Stop, everyone go back!". I, like other parents, have very little free time, I expect a school event to be organized and managed, not a "what's going on?" affair.

Great teachers and leadership at the welch. Every teacher has went out of their way to engage the kids and teach. A lot of variations of school activities to choose from and the programs have been carried out from volunteers who do a good job.

I love all of the extracurricular opportunities this school offers to my Kindergartener and 5th Grader. My Kindergartener is involved in the Spanish club. My 5th Grader is a part of the BBN (in school announcement news cast), Reach, Track, and Storm Team. He has attended the school since he was in Kindergarten and LOVES the teachers he's had and friends he's made. I love the diversity and acceptance at this school!

Barely any security. Tardy is their motto. Academics is below average. Idea of a field trip is going to the auditorium and charging 6 for it.

Welch has great teachers and staff, they are well educated and very helpful. This year (2013) class sizes have gone up considerably and that has affected greatly on the level of education, teachers are overwhelmed and students are not getting the attention they need to succeed. Budget cuts from the state and county are the main reasons for the class increase. As parents, we are very disappointed that Coweta school district has not taken steps to reduce other expenses instead of increasing class sizes. Some of the things they can do would be hire support staff that is able to teach part-time as well as do their support functions In some cases, they can reduce support staff completely and use that money to hire more teachers. Typical government bureaucracy is affecting education and kids are paying the price, shame on Coweta county school district for not taking care of the kids. If you are thinking about buying a house in an area so your child can go to school here look at other alternatives. We are going to be moving soon so our child can attend a school that has a better student to teacher ratio.
