This is our first year at Brooks and I can say I am not impressed. On paper the academics are there but if your child is not white, be prepared. I am the parent of two Hispanic children who have both had issues with bullying at this school. Thankfully my husband is military and we just got orders to move right after Christmas but if you have a child of color, they will not do anything and protect the white kids that are picking on them daily

I am a parent of a black child. Both parents have college degrees and my husband is in the USAF. If you look at the demographics of the children ratio you will see that this school is not for an African American child.Look at the scores in categories dealing with low income or under deserved children it explains how theses teachers operate. Their scores are high in so many areas but you get to the low income and it's there for you to see. We came from a county that was opposite and the majority was black and so I thought having my kids in this county would increase their learning skills. The teachers at the prior county made me feel that because it was all black kids they didn't care. Or they did enough to get by. For Brooks to be so academically impressive on paper my children only experienced one teacher(Mrs. Luker) at that school who I can say was a teacher for the right reason and race didn't matter. She was Pre-K and after that each year the connection between my kids and teachers got worse. If your child has an IEP or learning disability this school is awful at dealing with this kids. My children started noticing things every year with teachers in how they treated black kids vs.white and we do not teach this in our home. My kids got picked on by kids for their differences as black kids. My Kids lost their identity at this school because these teachers are not there for all students. When you walk in the office there is a picture on the wall of all the staff and students. You can barely find a black child in the portrait, it's so hard. The staff is probably 95% white in the portrait and that's mostly how it is now. The principal now is a black female and assistant was a black male. He really looked out for our kids but he left this year for Newnan High School but without him I cringe at the thought of that school without him. Our Kidds will be attending one of the smaller schools in the area and there scores in other areas of course don't compare to Brooks but its sad that scores for lower income and areas dealing with challenged kids are the same. How can you connect and have such high scores with regular kids but not those of challenges. For me that speaks volumes.I would love to see at Brooks the percentage of the low income and learning challenged kids are black. I'm not making the implication that they are racist or the school consist of racist but I am saying there is a huge disconnect for our black kids and I was eagerly ready to pull my kids.

I love this school. It is very welcoming to everyone. My son is special needs. We adjust the first 6months but it’s been great ever since. Dr. Stephens is great. She is very knowledgeable and caring.

This is wonderful school with a great parental/teacher support system. We had 7 years at Brooks. I was truly wonderful.

This school has it all: strong and capable leadership, teachers who care, and a staff that does what it takes. My son, who has a learning disability was shown love and high expectations from his teacher and from the principal. These are some hard-working ladies! If I could give this school ten stars instead of 5 I would.

We have been very pleased with our experience at Brooks. Our daughter's teacher always communicates with parents and the principal is always supprtive. It's a clean and well run school and we wouldn't have our daughter anywhere else!

My husband and I LOVE this school, the teachers, and especially the principal. From the moment she personally toured my huge family around the school, to the time she came and visited my child in the hospital, Mrs. Harrison is the 'real deal.' She truly cares about her children. This team of educators is by far the best I've ever seen. Because my hubby's in the military, I've been through three states, and I can honestly say, I've never seen the sweetness, the caring, and the respect given to all families. I don't even want to touch on the post below, but come on. Obviously, there's another side here, and I bet you money this poster did not get her way and is using this site as a way to get back at the staff of this beautiful school. Anuyway, I speak for my community and my family when I say that we could not be happier. This school is the best out there!

As previous poster mentioned, academically this school is great. However since Ms. Amy Harrison took over as principal, the friendliness and caring for students have plummeted. If you go to the staff with issues of bullying be prepared for your child to actually become the target of school scrutiny and ridicule in order to cover their backs on the no tolerance to bullying policy. I too have witnessed the bad mouthing of other parents in the school office. This school appears great until you attend it and realize its a real life drama being played out by the staff on a daily basis. Unprofessional and uncaring is putting it lightly. Hopefully the school returns to its prior glory once Ms. Harrison is no long the principal.

Academic wise, this school has everything you'd want in a school. The teachers communicate well and have a well thought out lesson plan for their children. However, there are two issues with this school. As a parent, I do not feel welcome by the office staff at all. Seeing office staff talking bad about a parent is rude and not appropriate. Especially when that parent is walking into the office. Also, the car rider line is atrocious. The system they have set up doesn't work as well as other elementary schools I have been to. They need to work on being more family friendly to ALL parents, not just the one's that they know. The academic qualities of this school is the only reason I am not looking at the Coweta Charter Academy or elsewhere. My children went to the school back when it first opened when there was a different principal. I don't know if it's the change in principal or what that has made this school not be as friendly as it once was, but unless this changes, I will keep my rating of it being average. Communicating and making parents feel welcome is important.

My son attended pre-k here (through the lottery program) and is currently in kindergarten. My son also has special needs (he is in private speech & occupational therapy) but can still be in a mainstream setting. His teachers are always accommodating & truly want the best for him. My son has an IEP and I have had several meetings with the Mrs Harrison (VP) & others to discuss the best course to take for him. I wouldn't send my son anywhere else in the county.

Brooks is a FANTASTIC school. All the teachers are wonderful and care about each and every student and truly care about each students success. I have two children here and one I have in the gifted class which has helped her care and love school. All the teachers my 5th Grader has got over the years have all been wonderful. The teachers don't just consider this an average elementary school. They expect you to succeed and try your hardest....which I love. Couldn't of ask for a better school. Way to Go Brooks!

Brooks Elementary located in Newnan, GA is the top-rated public elementary school in the county and it's only been in existence for two years. It had the highest CRCT scores in the county for 2011. The facility is new/clean and located in rural northern Coweta county. Faculty and staff are outstanding and the expectations are high.
