I'm not really impressed with the teachers or their methods. Curriculum is an necessarily complicated. Concepts which are simple are introduced to the students through complicated abstraction.

Three of my children have attended/currently attend Buchanan, so I have been involved with this school for years.Pros: This school has managed to maintain its small community atmosphere, even as the community has experienced unprecedented growth. The teachers really make the school a great place for kids to learn and grow. They go above and beyond in order to assure all children reach their full potential. They provide a safe, positive, and fun learning environment in which students can excel. Teachers seem to really care about the kids, and frequently communicate praises and concerns with parents. Overall, the principal seems to be supportive of the teachers and students. He started a school-wide behavior code system that has been mostly beneficial. The codes are sometimes hard to keep straight, but positive behavior is rewarded, while bad behavior is immediately dealt with. Cons: Parent involvement is low. The PTO has struggled for years to get (and keep) parents involved. The school is very old and somewhat run-down. The building needs updating. Technology resources are lacking. Too much emphasis on standardized testing, but I believe this is a universal problem.

I have two boys at this school and they love it. The teachers are welcoming and seem to care about the kids.
