When I went to Laing, The Quarantine had just started. Through awkward Plexiglas and masks we learned little to nothing in 6th grade. 7th was okay, but there has always been a huge drug problem and this year was the height of it. Most of the kids in this school are racist, homophobic, and discriminatory and do not get punished for it besides in school suspension, which basically does nothing. I liked some of my teachers, but those teachers left after I had them (Mrs. Kramer, Ms. Stoe, Mrs. Cottrell, Mrs. Brunson) Laing also prides themselves in being a STEM school, but the only STEM related things we ever did was go to the bare bones lab twice in each year and watch as the teacher who was impossible to understand tried to explain how 3d printers work. We did not do anything else.I really did not like Laing. In 6th and 7th grade I had panic attacks almost every day. I would not recommend this school unless your kid fits the typical southern stereotype. Otherwise, they will get bullied for literally everything

I expected more from a STEM school. They have some amazing electives, for example SCUBA diving as part of one class, but sadly my son was not challenged in math. At a STEM school where I specifically approached the administration about my son. We moved from out-of-state where he had been in advanced math classes and they insisted he repeat most of what he had already done rather than looking at him and his abilities and what he was capable of. They said it would not “hurt” him, but they did not care about helping him. Such a disappointment. So we wasted a year of math instead of challenging him. They did not have a math club or any extracurricular for those who love math, either. At a STEM school? So while electives are amazing, the math opportunities were not.

Laing is Mt. Pleasant's best kept secret! It is a wonderful school. The teachers and staff are excellent. It is small for a middle school, making it easy to have genuine relationships with everyone at the school. It prepared my son for acceptance to Academic Magnet HS.

Laing is indeed a secret in Mt. Pleasant. The teachers are great and the school is neat and clean. The small class sizes really allow the teachers to get to know the students and to have a handle on where they are in their learning of the subject matter. Thank you to all the hardworking teachers and staff!
