I was a former student at this school, I only went there for fifth grade because I had just moved to Mount Pleasant. I came from another school that really valued education and you own personal needs. When I got to JBE the math work in particular was stuff I had already learned and understood from fourth grade. I was never challenged in the classes that I took and sometimes I was even asked to teach it to other students there. On my MAP testing that year I scored lower than what I got on fourth grade. I also have a younger sister who goes to the school and she isn’t understanding things that she should already know at her age. I know people are different and some people excel in different things but even my parents believe that there isn’t enough not only learning but understanding of knowledge at this school. JBE isn’t all a bad school because they teach people leadership skills and have lots of school spirt but their teaching skills, methods, and curriculum just aren’t good enough for kids that age. I would not recommend if you want your child or children to flourish academically.

I have not had a good experience at this school. My child came home complaining of his teacher yelling at him and embarrassing him infront of the class on multiple occasions alone with other students in the class. I had a meeting with the teacher and principal where they stated "children will be children" and that my son had never been yelled at. I was asked to either send him back to the same teacher or withdraw my son 6 weeks before the end of school. Very disappointed in this school. They will not believe you or advocate for your child. My advice is to choose another school.

We currently have two children attending JBE, with another starting next year. The teachers, administrators, and staff all seem to know every child, and many parents, by name. They stress leadership skills at an early age, and proudly recognize children for adhering to those principles. There are many ways to get involved as a parent at JBE, and the teachers and staff seem very receptive to having input from us parents. For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone who is zoned for this district would ever choose to send their child anywhere else. It truly is a neighborhood shool, where everyone is made to feel welcome and respected. One of our children is special needs, and it has never been a problem seeking additional help or insight from the administrators and staff at this school when we've needed it. Go JBE!

JBE is a family school! Staff are kind and greet students by name. Principal Rambo is energetic, loving and fun! The smallness is comforting. Its our first year and I'm so glad we're there!

James B. Edwards Elementary is an amazing gem of a school. You feel a sense of calm bringing your child into a place where administrators, teachers, and staff knows each child by name. Kids are given a wonderfully structured learning environment where the teachers care about the child as a whole not just for their academics. JBE listens to new research and now has longer recesses, homework that is meaningful, and will be implementing flexible seating in all classrooms. If you want your child to be more than a test score, you need to bring them to JBE.

Her kindergarten teacher was not very attentive. They have good school spirit but no sports or art programs.

James B Edwards is a very tight knit school with amazing teachers and administrators that truly love the children. My family feels completely at home and cared for here and my children are getting an education that has far surpassed my expectations of public school. I am so thankful to be a part of such a wonderful community.

JBE reminds me very much of the small neighborhood school I attended as a child. Excellent teachers, staff, administration, and dedicated parent/community volunteers. Strong commitment to individual learning, each child gets challenged according to his/her ability. Opportunities to learn Spanish, strings, amazing that these are included in the normal curriculum! So glad nice schools still exist :)

This school puts to much on the focus of the negative your child does than the positives. After dealing with this school for a month, I know my son will not be returning next year. It is obviously they can not handle children with special needs. I was even told to go behind my ex's back and put my son on meds without his consent. What kind of school does this?!!

Very friendly teachers AND staff. Smaller school than some of the area schools so I feel the experience is more personalized for the students. Very happy with the environment and diversity the school has to offer. Love the Global studies program the school offers

I have two children currently attending the JBE school of Global Leadership. We are lucky to have so many good schools in Mt. P. and you can't really lose with any of them. Favorite features of JBE: Global Leadership theme is priceless in the lessons it teaches our kids on life - had no idea it would have an immediate impact, HUGE playground (with actual trees :) ), parent advice is welcomed and appreciated without allowing the parents to overtake the administration and small class size. Our school is older and could use some updates but, I will be sad to lose our character touches on the walls by our children. It makes me smile to see the wall murals and quotes and pictures. I feel like our school is a throwback to the community education of my youth. In this day and time a true community school like ours is hard to find. We all live in the surrounding neighborhoods. A lot of our teachers attended or have children that attended our school. Plus, we are one of only three Mt. P/SI schools to be zoned even in the new maps to attend Moultrie Middle School.

I have 3 children at JBE. We moved here from Maryland over the summer. All 3 of my children have really great teachers and the school administrators have been very helpful. I am very excited about the global leadership aspect of the school as my kids come home talking about the 7 habits. It was really cool when my 8 year old came home and said that he needed to "put first things first" and do his homework before he played.

I would be more wary of this school than what these reviews are saying. Based on personal experience, I would say that this school has that yuppy tendency to cover up things that they don't want the public to know about. As someone who volunteered there one school year, I can tell you that I saw one teacher do something that crossed the line of how teachers should discipline a student in this day and age. The incident was reported, but amazingly enough, the teacher is still working there in the same grade. Also, don't mistake higher test scores with quality instruction either. The students of this school, given the demographics, are much more likely to score higher regardless of the quality of instruction. Just something to keep in mind.

I have 2 children that attend James B. Edwards. We have been very pleased with the education and care our children have received there. The staff and teachers are working hard to give their best for our kids! We truly have a "family feeling" at our school ... It takes a village to raise these kids well these days!! The entire JBE family is looking forward to being The Global Leadership School in Mount Pleasant, SC! We are excited about all the opportunities are kids are going to have.

Both my children attend JBE...we love it! They have a very active PTO, excellent teachers and staff, and we love the community atmosphere. Additionally JBE is becoming a partial magnet school for the 2012-2013 school year focusing on Global Leadership and following the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Our teachers this year have already begun to implement successful leadership habits - it's very exciting! We love JBE...if you live or are moving to MtP, be sure to visit and take a tour.
