The bullying is terrible, it’s all I can focus on sometimes and has ruined senior year for me

Four of my children have attended this school. Hands down this is the most diverse school in our county for which I am grateful. Also, the gifted students program at Freedom possesses a rigor and excellence lacking in other schools in our county. College bound students are well prepared for the next level of learning. Freedom also has an outstanding fine arts program with dedicated instructors. Recent administration changes are helping to shift the culture to one which is more accommodating to students of all bents, not simply athletes. Sometimes our school gets a bad rap for simply being more representative of the real world by those who see the world through a monochromatic lens.

Freedom is a most excellent, diverse, student oriented High School where the students excell both academiclly and athletically as well as in the arts (Band program is one of the best in Western North Carolina.)

Freedom High School, Morganton, NC. I was surprised by the negative reviews concerning teacher involvement and lack of academic support. It is true that the school has a very successful athletic program; but it is also true that the school has the highest academic test scores of the 4 high schools in the district. The school consistently has more students earn scholarships each yr. than the others. Exceptional Fine Arts and JROTC programs round out a school that offers it's students tremendous educational opportunities.

I would not recommend this school unless you are an athlete. It has a great athletic program and could be a great school if they put the same effort in their academic program. As stated by other parents, communication between the school staff and the parents is non-existent. The school is filled with academically gifted students and others that could excel academically, if only they were given the same support, recognition, and opportunities the athletes are given. I don't want to take anything away from athletic students because I know they work very hard keeping up their school work, going to daily practice, and competing. Alot is put on these young folks. I think the school should put just as much emphasis on academic excellence and focus on communication. The school does have a select few teachers, who truely care about their students, that work hard to see that each of their students succeed and try to keep open lines of communications. Until this school goes through a drastic change and puts more emphasis on thier academic program, I would not recommend sending your child to this school unless they are an athlete.

The only positive I can find in the is the Jrotc program. Academics are ok, but teacher involvement is horrible. Extreme lack of communication. It is easier to get help from Microsoft that to just reach a teacher or counsler. The principal leads the school like a dictator. He is always looking down at you. Not at you.

More teacher aides are needed in any school at Present. Children ratio to Teacher has doubled. Many subjects require more one on one attention at times and being an only mentor on hand, May be too stressful and things are not conveyed as needed. Children may not understand a particular part and in turn the only teacher may not have the ability to give the one on one attention NEEDED...

This is okay but not all teacher is kind to the student. They sometime judge the student by the way they look.
