I’m a ninth grader from Tamalpais High, I went to this school for three years. I thought most of my teachers were incredibly kid, and many made me love learning. I was the Editor-in-Chief of the school’s newspaper, I have to say this school has great clubs for everyone to join. However, now they’re too strict. First they banned phones, reasonable. Afterwards, smartwatches, and now headphones?? Like how are kids not supposed to use headphones?? It’s like they’re trying to make the school boring. Other than that the principal prior was really kind and same with administrators, they’re just too strict at this school.

MVMS really supports kids in the transition stage between elementary and high school, helping to foster independence and self-advocacy while providing a safe and supportive environment in which to develop the education and skills needed. The school provides all kinds of learning and enrichment/club opportunities so that each kid can find their niche, and that applies socially too since it’s just big enough that kids can find their people and social circles.

Mill Valley Middle School is a lovely school next to a sewage treatment plant. The building is old and need of major renovation. There are not even any lockers. The teachers (with a few exceptions) are great overall. Administration is responsive and communicative.

The teachers here are so passionate about what they teach and find ways to make class so fun and interesting. We get to do things like acting in language arts and fun labs in science class. The counselors are also very kind and understanding, they can help in so many different ways. I am not a special ed kid but I sit next to one in a class and she gets a person that walks around with her and helps her in every class, as does every special ed kid who needs it. If the teachers notice an issue they contact parents which helps out a lot. The architecture is a bit gloomy and it has got a very bland shade of gray paint on the walls outside but inside it is a warm place. They are also building a wellness center to help out more kids. we also have a campus security guard now which helps with peace of mind.

Please do not send your kids to Mill Valley Middle School. As a student here, there is constant annoying, and rude kids. Kids go in the bathrooms at recess and get no punishment for being on their phones, instead they do homework for their "punishment". There has been graffiti, no one got in trouble for their actions even though they know who did. A couple of weeks ago, a kid escaped from school and then after went to target and hid under a car. Afterwards they were caught, then they were sent back to the school campus, but what about the punishment? Doing homework, that’s it. It’s not even a punishment. Staff do a horrible job at addressing bullying. I would’ve rated it less if the teachers weren’t good, sad that the school is also next to a sewage treatment plant. Good job teaching kids on how to misbehave, they’ll totally be super successful. Please do NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE. Choose other school districts in the bay area.

We were very happy with the academic and social emotional support provided at MVMS. Our son has learning differences and received all accommodations needed. The special education team is highly skilled, kind and effective.

If your child is a good student (academically and otherwise), and does not have any special needs or learning differences (we have one of each type of student), I highly recommend MVMS, but only for their teaching staff. Our kids have had nothing but exemplary teachers at MVMS, and to several of them who have picked up the slack of the administrators and the counselor, working after hours and at lunch to help our kids (and other kids), we are grateful. If your child does have special needs, I still recommend MVMS for the teaching staff, but go in with your eyes wide open that you will be your child's advocate, and that often times you will have to circumvent the counseling office (if you are with one particular counselor) and the administration to fight (and I do mean fight) for what your child needs. It's not easy, but the teachers make it worth the while.

I have sent three of my children here, all have found it a depressing, demotivating environment. This school is overcrowded and underfunded, which of course is odd given its affluent surroundings. While there are here some dedicated teachers who deserve better pay than they get, there are some lousy, uncaring ones has well. These people should have been fired long ago, but the union protects them. This community owes its children a much better middle school.

Its amazing! there is a fabulous amount of support (emotionally and acedemically) for all students. The teachers really care about me and my peirs and work very hard to help us go far. I was dealing with some problems at home this year and they were extremly considerit and understanding about what I was going through. There is a large amount of drug and alchohal abuse..but it is well taken care of. The kids are mostly white. but overall its an outstanding school and I dont think I would be in the same happy sate without it.
