I don’t feel safe at this school, there are fights between students 24/7, the students are so gross and disrespectful to each other and janitors ,substitute teachers are just there to get a paycheck, administrators have their favorite students and let them off the hook when they get in trouble, and you can’t learn anything when the teachers don’t know how to teach, they hand you a packet and tell you to get to work. Students are always playing games on their laptops. I am so tired of this school and I cannot wait to get out of it. And students will get in trouble if you talk bad about this awful school, they don’t want to let parents know the truth. This school has deeply affected my mental health and I wouldn’t wish this school to my worst enemy.

The discipline at this school is a joke. Students are openly defiant to teachers, there are fairly regular fights, students would rather play games on their Chromebooks than concentrate on their studies, and the administration does not put in sufficient effort to curtail these problems. When teachers bring discipline problems to light, they are expected to handle it themselves. Administration gets personally offended if the teacher expresses feeling a lack of support. All this administration cares about is sports and test scores, they couldn't care less about whether the students are actually learning anything. The staff is also very cliquesque. If you make friends and are willing to play along you should be fine, but you are not allowed to have opinions about how the administration does their jobs. I would not reccomend this school unless you are comfortable perpetuating the facade of an effectively-run school.

Two of my children have attended this school and the experience with both has between great. My first son attended Kimbrough several years ago and is now in college. He had ADHD and had a difficult time in elementary school. While he was here he received support from his teachers and his Special Education Plan was created and executed very well. I currently have another child attending this school and I can not speak highly enough of this school. He had a bad experience at Cannaday Elementary after the Administrator's were changed. He had some health problems that caused him to have many absences before his doctors figured out how to help him. The Principal and Assistant Principle both treated him and me. both very badly and had no concern for his well-being. They only were concerned with his attendance and the Assistant Principal went as far as to actually tell me that it was because of the funding. She told me I had to bring him in every morning to have the school nurse approve his absences regardless of him having a doctors note because as long as he showed up and saw the nurse Cannaday Elementary would still receive heir funding for the day if he could not attend. The way that they treated him made him not want to go to school anymore and he was miserable. Since he began going to Kimbrough he loves school again. Last year he was still suffering with his health problems and this school has beseem phenomenal on supporting him and showing that they actually care about him as a person and not just for the funding. I pin forward to my youngest child to begin attending this school and would recommend it to everyone.

It was good. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either.

My daughter has been here two years and I am so thankful for all the support she received from her teachers and coaches. She has been encouraged to work hard and do her best in academics and extracurriculars. So happy she is at KMS.

My son is starting 8th this year. He has always hated school, but last year he actually enjoyed going. He loved Technology class and said his science teacher was really funny and cool. I am so glad this school is a good one! He absolutely hated attending Ruby Shaw and I can't wait for my other two to be done with that horrible school.

My son is finishing 8th grade at Kimbrough. He has had really good teachers for the most part. The school has high expectations and enforces discipline so it is safe and orderly. The coaches and elective teachers have been wonderful. The coaches and choir staff go out of their way to work with kids and give their time often. Tutorials and extra help are always available. The staff truly cares about the kids. My son has grown academically, athletically, and in the fine arts.

As a student that just graduated from the school this year, Kimbrough is w/out a doubt the best middle school in Mesquite. Students don't feel like it is, but it just is, we're 2nd overall for sports (except the 7th graders that were there this year, they were horrible at sports, they don't live up to the schools legacy at all, but for 20 years we were always at the top), behind McDonald, but that's b/c they have MANY athletes that are 15 years old. We're pretty much tied academically with Terry, and everyone gets along like family. Sorry about this one, but I swear that 95% of the 7th graders are VERY unsanitary. Anyways, they had a strict no music policy this year b/c the songs that like only 1/20 people listened to were "inappropriate", but most teachers let us since it doesn't even bother anyone, in fact, everyone works harder and faster when listening to music. Speaking of the teachers! They are THE FUNNIEST teachers I have EVER met! They were like us on the inside but were still responsible adults. We have one of the best choirs in Mesquite and the best band too. There is no other school that can compete, get your kid in this school! And make sure they live up to our legacy.
