My daughter was assaulted several times and Ada Givens Elementary School in Merced, CA swept our complaints under the rug. Teachers give low scores at the beginning to later give higher scores giving false impression ofacademic progress thanks to their teaching. Teachers did not treat my child fairly and theCalifornia Department of Education routinely dismiss our complaints. School Principal is rude. Students disrupt teacher talking in class, skip class and strain the patience of teachers with rampant absences costing the school Federal attendance funds and causing teacher burnout. Celebrations involve loud music speakers pointed towards performing students causing Tinnitus(damage to ear nerves). My child scored near perfect score in IQ tests and transferred to a better school.

My child is currently in the fourth grade and has been at the school for three years. While Merced itself is socioeconomically problematic and the backgrounds of some of the students must be challenging, I can’t help but be impressed by this school. The staff is friendly and helpful and the teachers are amazing. Our experience as parents of a child at Ada Givens has been excellent so far. My child has loved every teacher he’s had and feels safe, happy, and motivated to learn here.

I have two boys that were enrolled in this school after moving to our new house, I went into the office and enrolled both my boys age 5 and age 7 one in kinder and the other in 2nd grade. I walked them both to there classes this morning along with the secretary and we all had a talk about my 7 year old walking to my 5 year's class and waiting for there pick up I was also told how my children would not be allowed to leave that class until there ride picked them up, However when my sister arrived to pick them up at 2:20pm no one knew where my kids were, the school did not even notify of my kids being lost and my sister was by the office staff o well she called me and told me what was going on I called the school and they acted like no big deal!! I did notify the police thank GOD my kids were found after walking home alone at age 5 and 7 more than 6 blocks away from the school! This school is a joke if you want your kids to be safe then this school is not right for you!!!!!!!

We have loved this school. Three of our children attend this school. The parent involvment is really poor though but that is no reflection on the school, more the parents lack of care for thier kids. The teachers have been fabulous, especially Mrs. Pino ion 2nd grade. The principal and office staff are great.
