Visited Collier High School for an intake meeting. While my child loved it, was basically grilled in the private meeting and left in tears. Do not let your child in the meeting without your school representative. Was told that due to the diversity of student he wouldn’t fit in. This is not a school for kids for need to learn social skills and how to get along with their peers. This is not a school where you should trust your child alone during the intake meeting. It’s a shame cause everything the other is top of the line but not the staff.

My son started at Collier after a dismal “remote” year in public. It was a nightmare- until he started at Collier. He’s starting his 3rd year there in a few weeks and the difference we have seen in him has been remarkable. He loves going to school now and they have met him every step of the way to learn his interests, personality and how to motivate him. We have found hidden gifts he has thanks to Collier. Public was just crushing him. We are forever grateful for this wonderful school and fantastic teachers, admins and therapists which have given us hope.

My daughter has been attending Collier since 6th grade...she is in 9th now. The public school system broke her and Collier put her back together...better than ever. Collier changed our lives. Amazing!

Best thing to happen to me during my high school years. The classes were small so the teachers had time for the students and they actually cared.

My son attended public school for K-8th grade. He just started his second year at Collier, I have never seen my son so happy to go school. Public school failed my son by constantly punishing him for things that were out of his control. He was diagnosed with ADHD and impulse control disorder. He was treated as a "problem child". I literally cried and beg them for help, they refused. Collier is a total opposite, they have helped my son in too many ways to list and accommodate him when necessary.

Collier Middle School was wonderful. Honestly, what they did for my sister was nothing short of miraculous. Collier High School failed her in every conceivable way and beyond. She was hospitalized for depression and was expelled. Meanwhile, another student who attacked a bus aid got a slap on the wrist and was allowed to stay. The teachers are terrible, special services are nonexistent, and the special ed program is atrocious.

The growth that a young person experiences as a result of interaction with administrative staff and the other students present is a gift that lasts forever. The school is and always has been a place where all persons grow to their highest potential. The school continues to meet the needs of their children and young adults in all their programs. 1975 graduate and continuous donor

My son loved going to Collier Middle School. Thrived...made honor roll. The staff was always there to help him in every way possible.Unfortunately, our school district did not want to pay for this anymore and placed him in a sub standard school. Its a fight to get him back in...but he will. Love it there!

Very strange environment. Staff is awful. Administration is worse. We pulled our son after they kept recommending more medication but they would not address academic issues and inherent staff issues at the school. Something is not right at this place.

My son was offered admission to Collier. He is an 8th grade high functioning autism student with an aide. Collier doesn't have students with aides, but after meeting with us and my son's case manager, they offered him admission. Both Bob Szafranski, Director of Social Services and Cynthia D'Arcy, Assistant Excutive Director of Education, and Barb Raffel assured us my son could attend with a personal aide. They had him pick out classes. My son was so very happy and excited to make the transition to Collier. With an autism spectrum child, transitions are HARD, so this was amazing. Three days later, after finding out Collier had to hire his aide, Mr. Szafranski, called to refuse his admission. My son didn't speak for two days. I don't know how a special ed facility can respond to at risk kids in such a manner and I remain appalled. My son asked me to call Mr. Szafranski to ask if he could attend without an aide, offering to take classes in the summer in typing so he could do his own notetaking. I called. My call was not returned. It's a beautiful place, Collier, but we were treated atrociously.

My son attends this school and it has been transformational. The school service students who are not able to learn well in public school settings - they offer small classes, excellent teachers and great counseling services. Tuition is paid by our school district because the students all have IEPs.
