The toddler room. Montessori is supposed to prepare the children to be self sufficient. When the lead teacher is spoon feeding a 3 year old, giving them pacifiers, and bottles instead of helping them to feed themselves. Stifling them developmentally . Parents, drop in without notice. Catch them in the act, best before nap time. The children are pushed when they are not developmentally ready.

We have been a part of the Manhattan Academy community for almost two years now. We have a child going into third grade and another coming into first. One of the many reasons why we chose this school was for the smaller class size and the academic excellence. I am impressed on a daily basis with the homework, classwork and the "reaching above and beyond" that the teachers in the elementary building expect. I have a degree in child development with an emphasis on education and this "little white school house" is a gem. Especially if you have a child that is bright and catches onto to concepts quickly they will encourage that child to move ahead to stay challenged. No pressure just simple encouragement. The parents could be more involved but you will see that with any school. Ignore the comments about the administration, your child is there to get an excellent education and the administration does everything in its power to ensure the best teachers and curriculum for the students. Focus on what is more important to your childs development and not what is inconveintent for you.

I have two children at this school. We have been here for nearly 6 years now. I wasn't sure that we'd stay on for the elementary program- I looked at many different options, private and charter. But, I am so glad we stayed. I don't think we could get a better education. The teachers are amazing. The clearly love what they do and they get the kind of support and assistance necessary to go the extra mile with each kid. I've seen other comments about the admin and I honestly don't buy it. I think this must be a disgruntled ex-employee writing these negative reviews. From what I have seen, the admin is very intent on hiring only the best teachers. Those who don't measure up eventually leave or are terminated. Those who stay are dedicated and talented teachers with years of experience and high levels of education. Most teachers have a masters or better. There is a strong sense of teamwork among the teachers and staff and everyone seems to always be striving to be the best. That trickles down- the kids are happy, enthusiastic and in love with learning. It's small enough that the classes feel like extended family and absolutely no one falls through the cracks.

I love Manhattan Academy and, more importantly, my son loves it! The Directress is involved, most competent, compassionate, and has set a standard of excellence to which the admin staff and teachers must adhere. Parents need to keep their eyes on the ball of what matters most, that being, a superb quality education for our children! The teachers are the absolute best in Manhattan Beach and that's saying alot. My son is in E-1 (1st grade) and has attended MA for more than three years. I could not be more pleased with MA and would encourage parents of pre-k through 8th grade students to take a very good look at this wonderful establishment. It is second to none.

I have seen excellent teachers as well as curriculum at this school. I do, however, feel that administration is lacking. When the director is not present (figuratively or literally), the school designates a teacher to run around. I have also been witness to rude and gossipy behavior from teachers/staff/admin at the Primary building.

My child attends this school and is going on his 2nd year. In regards to comments made about the administration I feel they should be tough on their teachers. Listen to the news about what is going on in schools today. We pay a lot in tuition for excellent education & to have our child protected. If teachers that leave can not handle the strictness of a Prep school, let them work for a public school. In regards to lack of communication. Each class has a room parent to direct queries through. When school is in session, it is not a time to distract the teachers with questions about your child. They are caring for the "children" of other parents. That is what parent-teacher conferences are for, That is what the telephone is for. Reach out. Excellent teachers, beautiful campus & excellent communication with parents.

My son attends this school and I love the teachers and have had no issues with administration. It is an excellent school. I do believe they could communicate better with the parents.

The teachers in the elementary/middle school building are wonderful, but because of the administration, all the good teachers leave! The culture at the primary building is gossipy and rude, and is encouraged by the director of the school. As a result of the lack of professionalism the teachers are treated with by the administration, there is a very high turnover rate. Once the parents catch on to the methods of the director, the good families leave also. With a supportive and respectful administration, it could be a great school.
