A kid brought a gun to school and a week later I see them in the hallways and all the staff acts like nothing happeneds. You can never feel safe even if you mind your business

Absolutely horrible school. I switch my last kid out of here due to the lack of safety, learning and discipline. Kids are out of control. No SRO to help with safety. Bomb threats, guns, fights- you name it, it’s happening. I swear my kids have a form of PTSD from the high level of anxiety every day. Do not use the bathrooms! No communication to parents/lack of transparency from the school district. There are some great teacher left, but many have left. They can’t get people to sub for classes.

I wen to Lafollette the first year it opened in 1965, IIRC, and loved it. I had the world's greatest Civics teacher.

My daughter is a junior and she has 3 classes that have no teachers. She signed up for an auto class and a drawing class, and could not take them because no funding so they couldn't hire a teacher. My child has a IPE, teachers don't follow her plans, and she has had no counselors for this past year.For all the fights and police activity and nothing getting better, that when there is a gun threat she acts like nothing its just another hour at school.The only support for the kids at school is for the minority, the school has forgotten about NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND, and that all children should be EQUAL TO the one next to them. Children should feel safe at school, instead.

I am now a sophomore at this school, and I do not recommend coming here. while most of the teachers are decent, the administration sector does almost nothing when it comes to bullying, they collect your personal data and don't let you search specific keywords (if you put the word bet or jerk into google, you will be redirected to a securly page) the principal and school administration do not listen to the student's needs, they treat special needs kids like me as if we were second-class citizens, they pay their teachers so badly there is a huge teacher shortage going on, the lunches are often either undercooked, burned, or just plain gross, and the atmosphere feels unsafe and unwelcoming. I recently saw a kid wearing ankle pads and a kevlar suit because they were so anxious about their safety here, so if you don't want your kid to get severe anxiety about being beaten up, bullied, or stalked on the web by school IT administrators, please do not come here. I suggest schools on the west side instead. they are better funded and have better accommodations for your kids whether they are disabled or not.

This is a great school. It really is the pride of the South East side of Madison. Many good academic programs are offered here and the faculty care a lot about the well-being of the students. Principal Wiese is a very good leader and strives for Lafollette to be the best it can be. Student leadership opportunities are abundant in things such as student government, restorative justice, pride guides, and many more. Lafollette has good athletic programs which stem from the quality coaches employed, most of which are faculty and staff within the district.

The 4 block is fantastic, and the teachers are extremely committed to their jobs. If a student is willing to put in hard work, La Follette can do great things for him or her.

I have attended La Follette High School for two years now. My experience has been terrible, only thing good about this school is the auto shop (especially Ms. Sherwood). The staff for the most part couldn't care less about students with special needs. My case manager (of two years) doesn't even understand what my disabilities are. My IEP has been useless. Just want parents of future students to understand that La Follette is among the worst high schools in Madison. If your son or daughter has a learning disability, please consider another school.
