10 out of 10. JTD is the best elementary school in Los Angeles! The campus has a 270 degree view of Los Angeles and the school has an excellent curriculum and student body. I highly recommend this school as my oldest child goes there.

Very poor. One child finished one year - removed second child partway through 2nd year.

This school is all about status... unless you are in the film industry or have a lot of money, just save your money on the admission fee and apply some place else. The AD will tell you there are very few spots... TRUST HER!

This school is WONDERFUL! As I toured the school, I was able to talk with the teachers. They are completely dedicated to ensuring the curriculum evolves to meet the educational needs of tomorrow, and a new assistant head of school has been hired to focus on strengthening the math and language offering. In addition the children graduate very well prepared to take on some of the best middle schools in the city (I should know I have close friends that work at Harvard Westlake, Brentwood and Archer and all rave about the kids from JTD). But most importantly the kids are NICE. While touring parents only get a chance to hear from a select group of the students, its very apparent that being a kind person is fundamental to the expectations that school has for its students. I could not be more impressed. Dedicated teachers, as well as educated and kind children- that is rare. Also, the new headmaster is quite warm during one on one discussions so make sure to try and get some time with her. The AD has been there a long time, she knows the school very well and its no secret that she will be kind to all who apply.

JTD new Head of School is disconnected, hypocritical and out of touch with today's world. Quotes such as; 'we don't do foreign language', 'the music room is in the basement', 'no art' and yet claiming to foster a well-rounded high standard of education for kids?! The 'parent interview' was the DA followed by Head of School talking all about herself, followed by some questions to selected students. The school claims they are completely unbiased to all cultures and financial status yet they proceed to tell you how many physicians, lawyers, CEOs are applying to the school with joy and give you every stat on YOU with the closer having the intonation of 'here's who you're up against, over 200 families applied this year, only a few are accepted'. They should just start the bidding at $30K a year and ask parents to open their checkbooks. It's upsetting that my child came out and said they enjoyed their time and would like to return when meanwhile I'm sitting in an appalling interview on the schools part thinking there's NO WAY I would send my child here. Not to mention 'observation day is also an utter waste of time; standing watching with no info and then being asked to leave.

This is a fabulous school. You will get everything your child needs to get them to a fantastic middle school.

John Thomas Dye is a good school. If challenging academics is what your after this school will get your lil one learning at a high level. Were relatively happy with the school. My only complaint is that there is no diversity.

My son's best friend attended here and we would compare homework assignments and I can say that this school had excellent organization and consistently challenging work. We were jealous!
