We moved here a few years ago when the kids were in 1st and 3rd. We came from private school and feel very good about the level of academics they have received. Such a great parent community. You also get out of it what you put in, like anything. They teach to the whole child.

I went to kenter myself for 4th and 5th grade after moving from a another country (I was born in the states though and spoke fluent English). I now am in middle school (grade 7) and I have 1 sibling that currently goes to Kenter and all I can say is that it’s simply an amazing school, and that I had an amazing experience regardless of going there for only 2 years. I would recommend kenter to anyone.

Kenter Canyon is like sending your child to private school except for free! Amazing administrative staff, talented and dedicated teachers and a newly renovated campus. In addition to its’ top notch academics, Kenter offers a vast enrichment program including such activities as robotics, coding, science and opportunities for performing arts. One of my favorite things about Kenter Canyon is how the school fosters strong character development. Through the “Citizen of the Month” program, the school highlights important characteristic traits that they hope will stay with students well beyond elementary school. They demonstrate how traits such as responsibility, flexibility and kindness can make for a strong, inclusive and supportive community. Kenter is home to both an incredible student and parent community. As for the recent pandemic, Kenter Canyon did an incredible job navigating the difficult transition to distant learning. Personally, my child’s teacher (as well as last year’s) has never missed a lesson and has provided a true sense of compassion while keeping the bar high academically: No school is perfect, but Kenter Canyon comes incredibly close. I feel lucky to have been part of this community for over 10 years and will be forever thankful for the gifts they have, and continue to, give my children.

Kenter Canyon is a very special place. I have two kids that attend Kenter and even with school being online, the faculty and staff have done a phenomenal job! We have also met the most wonderful families and its the best community! Moving to LA from New York, I was worried about schools, friends, communities and Kenter changed all that. The teachers are amazing and they really care about the students and the school. I truly can not say enough about Kenter Canyon. Its a gem!

Amazing school and great over all community for both learning and for families to engage. We are over 8 years into our experience, with two children, and wouldn't change a thing. As an affiliate Charter school there are of course limitations on what can be done outside of the bounds of LAUSD but the level of parent/community engagement and fundraising definitely helps to set it apart. We think that you would be very hard pressed to find a better elementary school in the area.To the comments below about bullying, we are very sorry to hear that a couple parents found themselves without the support they deserved. Unfortunately, bullying is unavoidable regardless of the school you go to, but our experience was very different. One of our children was in fact being bullied at the school and inside of weeks of the negative interaction being noticed by our teacher (it wasn't being clearly communicated to us at home by our child), we were meeting with the teacher to discuss solutions - ranging from meetings with the other child's parents to bringing in an outside school resource to resolve. Not only did we feel that this was swiftly dealt with but there was also a steady stream of communication about the situation at school and an active effort to mitigate future issues (not seating bully near our child in class or placing them in same work group).

Fantastic school. Probably one of the best in LA. Wonderful parent support group. A tight knit local elementary, that exudes character, community and dedication to a public school education. Tons of fund raisers that help augment class sizes with the hiring of 30 teachers and aides for this gem of a school.

This is our 8th year as parents at Kenter. We absolutely love the school and the community around it. The education that our children have received has been outstanding. The campus is always being improved and the grounds are well kept. From the amazing teachers, to extra activities, to the annual Gala fundraiser, we have been deeply thrilled with our experience at this incredible school.

A few years ago, my son had Stephanie Ross as his 4th grade teacher. Previously, he had been sociable, earned all As, was comfortable with his teachers, and enjoyed going to school (as much as any kid can). He started to get bullied, and reported it several times to his teacher & TA. The teacher (Ross) and teaching assistant made it clear that they didn't particularly care, and that it was something between his responsibility to deal with and his own fault for getting bullied in the first place. This was not schoolyard teasing - this was 3-4 of the same kids consistently ganging up on him, insulting him, kicking him, hitting him. Beyond this, his teacher was insulting, and made mistakes with some frequency. I wish I had known about all of these things when my son was a student at the school, but my son had had such positive experiences at his previous school (warner) that I think I assumed everything was fine. My son didn't talk to me about all of this until a couple of years later, and I regret sending him to Kenter Canyon. It took my son about 2 full schoolyears to return to his sociable, energetic, school-loving self from the scared, shy, apathetic kid he became at Kenter. Don't make the same mistake I did.

very disappointing. Dr. Moren holds all the cards and doesn't listen to what any parents have to say. And Dr. Moren cares less about gifted children.

Terrible. I had an overall terrible experience with this school. My daughter was miserable and now my son is in therapy.

Terrible. I would never want another child to go through what my daughter went through.

We’ve had an overall good experience and love our teacher. However there are 27 kids in our child’s kindergarten class- which is too many in my opinion. But the parent involvement at this school is unparalleled and it has a great school culture.

It was a horrible experience. Our lives changed when we switch schools to go to Brentwood Science Magnet.

2/10 due to the teachers being so inconsistent. Every year we've been there one of my kids has had an awful experience with teachers. When the teacher is great and likes their job the year is fantastic, but we've been here for almost 8 years total and never had a good teacher for all kids.

Kenter Charter Parents! Could you answer my question please if your child got into the school via lottery. Do you like the school? Do you feel your child is a part of the community or not?

Excellent education; most of the students are very bright, engaged, and talented; terrific principal; majority of teachers range from good to amazing; compared to other public elementary schools with similar numbers of students, campus is large with a good amount of grass & play space.

i am not sure what kenter canyon the person who gave such a negative review a few posts down. i am a parent of a kindergartener and we do celebrate bdays and holidays. they celebrated halloween, all the winter holidays, valentines, pres day, MLK day and just now saint patty's day. our class, room 3 did day 100 too. i get 2 emails a week from our class parents as well as a friday newsletter and the friday folder that fills me in on all the happenings, which are many. i have had ample chances to meet other parents and families.. there is a lot going on there. i am not sure what class you are in, but my experience has been totally different. we love kenter and cant wait till my other son is old enought start there.
