Things have changed since the new principle took over a few years ago. The website is incredibly misleading, and outdated. There are only 3 teachers employed to teach grades kindergarten-8th. The principle refuses to fill the open teaching positions claiming that there is no room in the budget for the expense due to the schools “tuition-based” funding model. What exactly the tuition is spent on remains unclear. In terms of grade level standards- 6-8th grade science and math is a critical component students should have a solid grasp on / mastery of prior to beginning high school- this is an incredibly undervalued aspect of middle school that Good Shepard overlooks and undervalues failing to invest funding in preparing middle schoolers for high school educational standards or applying to HS with highly competitive science/math programsThere is no technology/STEM learning to supplement the curriculum which is centric on print out worksheets that the students spend the entire school-day working on, the playground equipment hasn’t been updated since installed - there are no afterschool activities/programs (website is outdated) the principle openly complains about the low enrollment numbers and high un-enrollment of students. The only classroom that is growing is preschool with the remaining students steadily decreasing in numbers. The principle fails to recognize that this is due to her lack of investment in school programming, and cutting expenses from teachers payroll and quality of education - the principle has deemed herself qualified to teach math to the upper class students, and has expressed no intent on seeking out qualified teachers to take over the teaching positions she’s employed herself to fill while also employed as the only office administrator/ principle/ math teacher Currently - to accommodate Principle Irma’s poor fiscal management, the entire student body is grouped by convenience, grades are lumped together and classes grew from 5 students to 12/15 and include a wide range of ages and grades. The entire school is structured around the lack of teachers - an issue that the principal has expressed no intent on addressing or improving. The academic curriculum is painfully outdated, Students daily schedule is spent in the classroom doing worksheets (no new textbooks or computers) .

Great school. I went there for elementary as do our children now. They will get great study habits due to the smaller class sizes and the culture of high achievement. Tuition is hard to beat as well.

I have interacted with this school for more than 10 years. It is delightful! The administration, teachers and familiessense of feeling of involvement. I have known some parents who have chosen public school for a year and haverushed back to the solid, fundamental values of Good Shepherd. They feel there is no better place in which to investthan a small Christian school. One can't put a price tag on one's children. I've looked around and Good Shepherdis as bargain!

Our sons both go here. One in 1st and one in PreSchool. We are so blessed by the care and attention they get at the school. Both boys are learning and thriving in a safe and supportive environment. The community at this school really feels like a family and it is one of the most affordable private educations available. Highly recommend it

My children have been attending Good Shepherd since preschool and are now in Kinder and 3rd grade. We wanted a smaller classroom feel for our children so that they would be able to receive personalized attention from the teacher. My children have gained so much confidence from attending Good Shepherd and learned beyond classroom subjects. The school values developing well rounded leaders and building relationships with their peers. Their social skills and curiosity are practiced everyday at school. I would highly recommend Good Shepherd to any family looking for a small private school education.

Good Shepherd Preschool is the "hidden gem" of Highland Park. Our family feels beyond lucky to have discovered the child development center for our 2 young boys. Our kids have thrived here! There is a great deal of emphasis placed on social and emotional learning, play, and kindness towards others. Our 5 year-old was completely prepared for Kindergarten thanks to Good Shepherd and his brother is safe, happy, and thrilled to be in the preschool program.

My daughter has been attending this school since preschool and is now in 5th grade. Classes are small and everyone feels like a family.

My daughter is entering her second year in Good Shepherd's CDC- Child Development Center and the teachers and staff are extremely caring and involved. They are re-enforcing manners and appreciation in the little ones at such an age where it really takes effect. The kids attend chapel on Wednesdays and learn a new bible verse each month providing a good balance amongst academics and outdoor play/social time. All this at an affordable tuition with before and after day care. I definitely recommend!

Our daughter is in high school now and thriving. We are convinced that her years at Good Shepherd (4th - 6th grades) are the main reason she turned out so well. There is a night and day difference between this school and the public schools in the Eagle Rock-Pasadena-Highland Park area. Small classes, a loving environment, and great teachers. Isn't this what all parents want for their kids?

OVERALLSpeaking to the Pre-K experience, we've found it to be a diverse environment with a mix of play & basic academic learning. Little ones can enroll at 2 years, 9 months, and must be potty trained. We had an OK experience here. It is somewhat bare bones though, so if your child has any special needs, you may want to look elsewhere. SCHEDULE/COSTSThe PreK/Child Development Center option offers part-time or full-time days, with care extending 7a-6p. The full-time costs $600/month. Hot lunches are optional at $3.50/meal, with $5 fund-raiser meals for school programs mixed in.OTHER STUFFThere are bonus programs offered, such as soccer, Being Davinci, and 4-H at additional cost. Annual events like the Harvest Festival & celebrations around the holidays give families a chance to participate and enrich their kids' experience at the school. The school is associated with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on the campus. Even if you're not Christian, the monthly family services are a nice chance for building community & for students to gain public speaking/performance experience.

Our daughter is now in 8th grade at Eagle Rock High. Looking back, she views the elementary school years she spent at Good Shepherd as the most formative of her life. She forged deep bonds with students and teachers which continue to the present time. And Good Shepherd gave our daughter academic and character advantages which keep her on top of her middle school classes. Taking our daughter out of a LAUSD public school and placing her at Good Shepherd was the right decision. For a middle class family like our, $4,000 tuition for a quality private school was a miracle..... Mark S.

My daughter has attended Good Shepherd Lutheran School for 3 years. She has had an exceptional experience. The teachers are top-notch and students thrive in the caring and nuturing environment provided. Parent participation is promoted and encouraged. The tuition and extended care fees are very reasonable. They also offer a summer camp program with a variety of fun activities for the children and the option of being able to attend weekly or on an 'as-needed' basis.

My daughter is in 10th grade honors classes. She graduated from 6th Grade at Good Shepherd. My son is in 4th grade at Good Shepherd. He reads at high school level. I believe students' high achievements come not only from parents but a great school with caring adults around them who teach with God on their side. This school is located in a section of Highland Park and is small enough to be called "a family." Because of its size I love to think my kids have had "private tutoring" throughout their time at Good Shepherd.

I absolutely LOVE this school. Both my sons attended , and they loved the school. We are signing up our third child to attend starting in the fall. The teachers are incredibly lovely and patient. I love that religion is embedded into their day. They have discussions about being good to one another, learn Bible verses (including the "Our Father" in pre-school... 3 years old and he memorized the verse). Everyone is sweet and loving.
