Very engaged staff and families. Instruction is of high caliber, and students are supported even if they are having trouble keeping up.

Both my kids went to AV from Pre-K through to 5th graded. Both are now in middle school. The school is mich more diverse than neighboring school districts and there is so much investment from all parties involved, including the teachers always going above and beyond to provide the best education and even spend their own money on school supplies. The parents are actively engaged and encouraged to volunteer and spend time with the kids. From the librarian to the cafeteria ladies and administration. It’s a community where our kids are in an environment conducive to learning.

I have a 2nd grader and a 5th grader and we all love AV. The teachers are skilled, caring, and engaging. The principal and administrators are understanding and also very caring. The school addresses the social emotional aspect of the curriculum in an effective manner. When my daughter required a 504 plan the process was thorough and effective and she has received all the necessary support for her to continue to be successful. When she encountered bullying it was addressed quickly and effectively . The PTA is very engaged and the overall campus culture is extremely positive and fun. We have moved a lot over the last few years, from a top school in LAUSD, to Marengo, homeschool during COVID, and now AV - and this school really has been the best experience by far. We are so appreciative of the staff and administrators and the wonderful learning environment they have created for our kiddos. I highly recommend AV.

dont go here. I am telling you. this place is so boring. the new principal it the worse plus she was from morengo and made av look plain. but all the teachers are nice.

Where do I start? I guess I will start with the good, the teachers are great, and they care about the children's education and development. The school administration, up to the board members of the SOUTH PASADENA SCHOOL DISTRICT, on the other hand, treated my child and me in a heartless, cold, dismissive, and condescending manner. Amidst my child's 4th grade school year, we moved to escape domestic violence. We didn't notify ANYONE of our move due to safety and privacy reasons. The school did some sort of check and found out that we were no longer living within the zoning area for Arroyo Vista. I emailed the principal to confirm his information and informed her that I was also in the middle of requesting an inter-district permit. She then responded with a horrid letter informing me they were disenrolling my child in a WEEK! And I needed to enroll my child immediately in our new district (which was a neighboring city away) As a single mother escaping domestic violence abuse at the time, I was DEVASTATED to receive this letter. I was really trying to make things as normal as possible for my child, and this made it impossible. I immediately tried to get an inter-district transfer expedited, the transfer was approved by the Alhambra School District and IMMEDIATELY DENIED by the South Pasadena School District. I escalated the matter with the South Pasadena School District's board members, and they did NOTHING. ONE member reached out simply to ask me what grade my daughter was in, and nothing else, no help was extended. They collectively denied extending her enrollment with only TWO MONTHS LEFT IN THE SCHOOL YEAR AND A STATE TEST COMING UP THE FOLLOWING WEEK. My child and I were thrown out of the South Pasadena School District with no regard. The Arroyo Vista School Principal and District Administrators/Board Members DID NOT care that FORCING my child into a new school with only TWO months left in the school year would have a TREMENDOUS impact on her mental health. After asking them to consider the situation at hand and consider my child as an individual, still, no one cared that this decision negatively impacted my child.I hope that enough people read this review and push for SPUSD to change their inter-district permit process to consider students holistically as a human being. I hope no other parent ever goes through the nightmare I went through with this school and school district.

My brother and I go to AV, and I love it so much! My teacher are just so nice, and they teach me to be a nice person. Before AV, I was a procrastinator, and after 5-6ish years at AV, I dropped that role, and turned into a better student! I highly recommend this school!

This is my child's second year at AV, and she couldn't be happier! She loves her teachers, who are amazing and caring. I love that there are optional STEM projects and the annual Science Fair. This is a great school and I highly recommend it!

There will be zero support if your child requires services. The SST Team is a blockade for resource for your child. Cliques run the PTA and they are not interested in you entering their domaine. The junior high is packed in with no space for these children to run, play, or enjoy sports. Their solution to the crowding is gym equipment such as treadmills. We moved out of this district known to be sued for their lack of assistance and we got the support we needed for our child's success and growth.

It's our first year at AV and it has been wonderful. We had a prior year at Monterey Hills and this year's experience has been 100 times better.

We are an incoming family for 2014 and loved our tour with a highly experienced and professional principal supported by enthusiastic staff working in well-maintained facilities. We can't wait to join the Arroyo Vista Family! It's the most diverse of the three south pas elementary schools and is extremely high performing!
