Taught here for a number of years. Moved my own kids to Orange County because I didn't want them attending here. The administration was just horrible. The whole district is more worried about their reputation, looking good and garnering awards from no name organizations. The administration will post rules and policies but are no where to be found enforcing them. Long Beach does not seem to get rid of bad principals either. Instead they just shuffle them around to other sites. A colleague of mine called this the "dance of the lemons."

I graduated from this school two years ago. This school has a bullying problem. They also have a disciplinary problem. When I was over there, I was a product of bullying. For some reason, I was on other kids' minds; I don't know why. There was a student who got another student pregnant; he was bullying me, and he would also recruit his girlfriend to bully me as well. One time, a random kid in class had asked me if I was gay in front of the entire class. Some kid had came up to me randomly and took a selfie with me for no reason. I have tried to put myself out there, but most of the kids over there were obnoxious and full of themselves.

If you have a child with good grades and loves high school then you are going to be fine but if you need help with finding out if your child is skipping class then might as well transfer them because school staff is so incompetent call after call email after email and even going straight into the office we get no response no phone calls returned no response to emails EVER !I’m beyond frustrated I ask for help with finding out if my son is attending all his classes and for weeks no communication and no response from the school they just don’t care my kid can just walk out of the school skip class and all I get is an automated message to call and correct the absence and when I do call nobody ever answers .I feel ignored this school really does not care about our kids .I’m not asking them to babysit my kid of course I am responsible but I would like to know why is it so easy for him to just walk out time after time and help with putting something into plan to prevent this .

Graduating class of '23, this school has only gone down since i got here in 2019. Wilson does not have enough discipline when it comes to kids wandering campus during class or when it comes to vaping and drug use especially in bathrooms. Instead of punishing the children involved their solution is to lock up multiple bathrooms at the same time restricting access to the students. These "solutions" are all similar in nature when it comes to various problems. The school strongly favors minority groups and the amount of assignments and clubs and months and weeks surrounding "inclusivity" are outrageous. I do not feel represented in this school. This school is highly politically biased and I'll leave it at that. Many kids at this school have horrible attitudes and i feel that the low work ethics of said students brush off on others. I am not saying that all kids are like this, but a very high amount of them are. If I could pick my high school again I would not pick Wilson.

Long Beach School District: REMOVE THE MASK MANDATE NOW!You went from promising these kids "two weeks to slow the spread" to nearly TWO YEARS of these mandates. It is time to give our students back their FREEDOM!

I've only felt comfortable in one specific class, while the others were stressful or hard to understand. There is also an issue with smoking in the restrooms, it has gotten to the point where anyone hardly goes in there unless it's to smoke. Bullying is an issue swell. A classmate was being picked on in one of my past classes and the teacher did not bat an eye even though it was happening publicly. When students report things, it is hardly taken care of. With all that, I believe there is more to be done and I wish Wilson the best after.

There are a few teachers at this school who drive my kid crazy. They are poor teachers. But most of them are quite gifted considering how many non native English speakers go here. My kid is in the AP classes and she gets frustrated when she wants to learn and everyone else is messing around because the teacher won't or can't control the class room. But that is an exception and only one class a year for her seems to have that problem.

I like this school although it's overall score has dropped a bit since my daughter first started.

As a father of 2 graduates from Wilson class 2010 and 2016, I can attest to the excellence of this school. Both of my daughters got into Stanford with very high GPA. And one of the Valedictorian with a 4.75 gpa. Do I need to say more? This is a great school.

The administration for this school is horrible. It needs staff that cares about students education. The worst!!!

Wilson is in a safe neighborhood close to some of the most beautiful parts of Long Beach. The teachers are very experienced and caring, college placement is high and the school excels in academics, athletics and student environment. Any student who is considering Wilson needs to get on campus during a normal school day to see what a great place Wilson really is. My three boys attended here and were challenged academically and athletically and were very well prepared for academics and athletics in college. One is still competing on the USA National Team.

STAY AWAY!! This school is all about smoke and mirrors. While there are some hard working staff and teachers the administration is horrible. They allow the kids to run wild and are not supportive of their teachers there. It is severely overcrowded and they have lowered their standards in the past couple of years otherwise their "park avenue" would be overrun with kids below a 2.0 average. Stay away at all costs!

This school is a really great school for learning, you got AP classes, accelerated classes, and even a special program for students that are falling behind (Below 1.4 GPA avg.) called Park Avenue. There are a wide variety of electives to choose from like Graphic Design, 3D art, Art and Animation, Ceramics, Architecture , Piano, and many others! There are also many other languages other than English to choose from!

I am a parent of a Wilson student and a teacher at a different Long Beach High School. Wilson has a strong academic program, plenty of student support for both academics and personal issues and great parent support. My student is also an athelete and the coaches emphasize academics before athletics. The staff at this school has always returned my emails and phone calls either the same day or the next day. I even received an email from the counselor at 10pm. My student is very happy at Wilson and her academic program is both challenging and engaging. We have had only positive experiences at this school.

Wilson is a historic school with unsophisticated, completely disorganized and overly impacted programs. For the past four years we have experienced disengaged and unhelpful counselors and dishonest athletic booster clubs coupled with administrators who are more interested in the status quo rather than progress. Poly PACE or CIC seem to be much better programs in the same school district with overall better athletic performance.

Overall, Wilson is a great school. I have two children attending at this moment. One of my children is special needs; this is where Wilson needs to refine their skills. Granted parental involvement is vital with any student and especially when that child has special needs, but I have had to go beyond the norm to advocate for my child. Both my children are doing well at Wilson but be diligent if your child has any special needs.

It is my understanding that this school used to be better but im guessing budget cuts have ruined that for many schools- including this one. This school is way overcrowded. The Distinguished scholars program is no where near as challenging as they claim it will be and the all new adminstration abd counselors are so overwhelmed that you are lucky to get a call back after 5 or 6 attempts. In addition, if your child has any issues that need attendind to, dont expect ant compassion- they are rude and short with you and your kid... If you do not want your good student to end up "just a number" and lost in a crowd, find another school, i wished i had! We are out of there in January-semester change!
